For the record im not Hating on the Amish thats the farthest thing from my mind just thinking out loud.

I was Browsing my local gun store will not name. and there where 3 Amish men looking at shotguns pumps and double barrels. they were fully Amish had the beards and all, i know and work with Amish and they aren't supposed to have guns because they can take lives there same reason they don't drive.

Today watching TV and the show Amish mafia previews come on "its probably fake" but it gets me thinking. Are Amish arming them self's too are they getting scared of whats to come? :twocents:

Im just asking have anyone else seen Amish in gun stores lately/ever? And we really dont have Amish living around here. please be nice

This is EXACTLY the opposite of the Mennonites in northern MN. They ALL have deer rifles and 12g pumps. They LOVE porn and drink secretly.

Ah, perhaps their rules vary by community as well!

I learned something I didn't know from an episode of "Longmire" earlier this year. The community of Mennonites in that episode practiced Rumschpringe, which I thought was only an Amish thing. I was wrong!

I live about 15 miles south of an amish community at Milroy. We needed a buggy wheel worked on and went to the buggy shop to get new wood for the wheel. They ordered spokes from another amish business and done it over the internet, the computer was in a little 10 x 12 shed behind the buggy shop. When we drove home that day through the community we were surprised at how many sheds behind there businesses that had electric run to them and we assumed probably computers in them also.

You have this, and then again you have Amish like a community in southern Kentucky which offers two methods of communication: You can write them a letter or you can go there.

The ones I know have no electricity or in-door plumbing.. but.. they go next door to the "English" man (Non-Amish) to use his telephone to line up business jobs. They use gas engines to run the washing machines... pretty cool.. Do they hunt??? All the men in the families hunt and they really roam the woods as they are in good shape and really know the vast sections of the State Forests. I know one of them that bought a new Bowtech 380 crossbow..

    Bacon Popcorn

While living in Fort Wayne, I had the opportunity of meeting an Amish family and the father had the handle of "Buggy Whipper" a really interesting man.

At their home, his wife introduced me to Bacon cooked Popcorn. She kept the Bacon rendering in a tin and melted a spoon into the popcorn pot to cook the corn. My G_D I was in Heaven when I first ate this Bacon Popcorn ..

Were they amish or by chance mennonites ? Not very knowledgable myself on the exact differences but the few mennonites I have encountered have dressed and acted similar to the amish but generally have been very heavily armed and ready for the end, so to speak.

I don't know of any amish rules that say they can't hunt. I've heard lots of stories of the amish having shotguns, over the years.
Yes, that is correct. I used to work, some years ago, at a place where this ex-Amish lady worked, and she said that her family hunted all the time. Maybe some of the Amish don't own guns, but the ones around here seem to.

Not amish, but available at a store near you. Maybe.

i dunno about the amish over there, tho i can probably guess what store you were in. Here in Adams county, theyre pretty liberal. they can drive cars, have cell phones, and power tools if they do it for -work- which most work for contractors. they usually have a -secret electric room- for their phones and generators and such. they buy flour at wal-mart, and beer too.

wont be more than another generation or two that theyll all be gone from this area.

    This thread makes me laugh.
I will have to ask my neighbor about this when I see him out hunting squirrels next week in my woods.
Used to hunt deer with another Amishman who had a better shotgun collection than most of you here.
I hate going to auctions around here cause when the Amish show up, they get most of the guns.
The number of Amish who are NRA members would surprise most people, and I get this little piece of info from a lady who was a mail carrier and delivered the American Rifleman and American Hunter to them.
