Oh, that why Iraqis were yelling shoot the kid when the movie was playing in Bagdad???????

The American military does not exist to "liberate" anyone. It exists to protect the nation. If you disagree, please point me to the part of the Constitution that dictates otherwise. People don't value their freedom nearly as much when somebody else gives it to them. Look at the Iraqi's now, they couldn't stop a bunch of psychos in Toyota trucks, despite being better trained, better armed, and outnumbering their opponents. If I was to conjecture why, I'd say because they expected us to do the "heavy lifting." Why fight for your freedom when someone else will keep doing it for you. I'd much rather prefer that the gov invade Iraq to keep up safe rather that liberate Iraq (as iffy as that is to believe also).

I don't disagree. You can give a man a fish... Unfortunately we have become the world's cop. I think because we actually fought for our freedom is why we have lasted so long.

An amazing experience! I noted several times how immersive it was in both the in theater war events and their personal angst.

I thought a couple of different times "I wonder what it smells like to be there?"

Taya has turned into a powerhouse and my degree of respect and admiration is on balance with Chris's strength of character.

Very moving and the combo of tears and silence during the credits was awe inspiring.

He is right on target. in simple terms, the U.S. Military is trained to kill people and break things. For that reason, we take the war to the enemy and fight on their turf.

Liberators? Is that the narrative the dot GOV is telling us now?

But conquerors keep the land they defeat. We don't do that.

we went in to enforce terms of the first gulf war cease fire thaT Saddam willfully ignored. Our justification (in my mind) was enforcing the cease fire terms as a direct consequence of Saddam's invasion of Kuwait.

He was a hero. A hero to the troops he was there to overwatch. He was just a single soldier asked to do a job and he did everything he could to do the best job he could. The politics on whether we should have invaded Iraq are irrelevant to this discussion as it has no bearing on Chris' performance. His job was to protect our troops and he was a hero, legend, in that. What is so political about that? I just don't comprehend how he is thought of as a murderer. He only killed those trying to harm our troops. What would you have rather he do? Just sit there and watch, taking a "moral" stand to protest the reasons why we were there by just watching our troops get killed? No way.

It sure gives one pause to think that there are those who would make this movie their political battlefield. Would you guess they gain much credibility or numbers of supporters to their cause by nay-saying this very popular movie?

Interesting question, which also raised the other side as well. Who is attempting to gain political capital by showing support for this movie when the values portrayed are not aligned with theirs?

    Imperialist conquerors keep the land.

Many excuses were made and lies told to get to do what was the stated objective all along. Régime change. Right or wrong, it was what it was.

Soldiers were given missions to achieve objectives and they did their duties. And soldiers who put their own lives on the line to save their fellow soldiers are heroes.

The drivel from the liberals and libertarians, that to the Iraqies we were invaders so therefore no American executing his duty could be a hero, is complete ideological nonsense. For one, they ignore the fact that many Iraqies did see us as liberators from Sadam and that the insurgents were Baathist exteamists, foreign fighters, terrorists.

The people who whine about American Sniper are the same kinds of people who spat on my older brother when he returned from VN. Those idiots should be spat upon and ridiculed and described as the crazy nut bags they are.

    .

I completely agree on that our goal was/should have been regime change. I'm layout out the evidence that we were wholly justified by enforcing the terms of a deal he made to stall the first war that he started. "Weapons of mass destruction" be damned.

Progressive liberals hate the military.... and anybody that happens to like being American.

Liberalism really is a mental illness. You can see some of it upthread.

    Take howard dean for instance......

"There's a lot of anger in this country. And the people who go see this movie are people who are very angry," "This guy basically says, 'I'm going to fight on your side.' They bite for it."

If you think that the American military is caretaker of worldwide freedom, I have some unicorns and rainbows for sale; if you're interested. I look at things how there ARE, nothing more, and I state my opinion. I'm sorry, that you can't grasp the meanings of what I say. When I look at your posts, I do so with envy. I would have had the best childhood in the world if I had Kool Aid on tap. And if I make you that sick, you have a number of options: man up... and accept people have differing opinions, ignore, or the next time you fly, ask for more vomit bags.
