Got this little blurb in an email... not sure when it occurred. When I saw the $20,000 figure for a revolver, I thought it might have been a Taurus... ;):):

REALITY, WHAT A CONCEPT: Wylie Gene Newton, 64, of Erie, Colo.,
stopped by a gun shop in nearby Wheat Ridge to sell two rare antique
revolvers, one worth $20,000 and the other $500,000. The gun shop:
Gunsmoke, site of a reality show on the Discovery Network. In the
resulting episode, store owner and series star Rich Wyatt described the
first as "a museum-quality Colt Dragoon," but the second gun was proved
to be a $350 replica; the first was real. Newton walked out of the shop
with both guns when he was told about the fake. Still, Wyatt called it
right: after seeing what Newton was offering, a volunteer from a museum
in New Mexico tipped police that the Dragoon was stolen from the museum
shortly before the episode was filmed. Newton, who had visited the
museum several times before the gun disappeared, even signed the guest
registry. He has been arrested. (RC/Denver Post, KRQE Albuquerque)

So, he tried to pass a replica off as a $200,000 Colt Walker, and the "real" one (dragoon) was STOLEN!?:n00b: Why would he take it to the ONE gunshop in the country where the transaction may be filmed and Nationally televised?! He may get on two shows now American Guns, and now America's Dumbest Criminals! Hmmmm, I always thought all of those "customers" were setups by the show....Interesting....
Here is a link to one of the Colt experts take on the authentification and experience with the show. “American Guns†and Robert M. Lee’s Magnificent Colts | Yellowstone Press

I remeber watching that episode and feeling sorry for the guy when he found out the one was a fake. Still can't believe he tried to pull that off in front of the cameras.

I too remember that episode. I kinda wish they had paid half a million for the fake! Make up for some of the raping they give their customers!
    As for the thief...:ugh:

Well, I do know that gun shops run the firearms, no matter how unfishy the story is when someone sells them, same as at the pawn shops. Its always good practice to watch their own back.
