    Our (USA) Ports are, from multiple sources, arguably the most inefficient in the world. We don't work 24/7 and we don't employ as much automation as other countries.
    The strike is on the basis of stopping any more automation (we already employ less than other countries), among other things.
    The union leader has said "I will cripple you." Same union leader makes $1 million annually. Has alleged ties to mafia. Makes massive donations to Democrats.
    Hard to root for the unions here.

    You seem angry. Why, I don't know as I never said what you apparently think I said.

    Higher wages are one of the factors that drive inflation. It's simply a fact. What we do with that knowledge, if anything, is a whole other discussion.....but it's a fact.
    Not angry, and I understand inflation, I just disagree with many on here that working class Americans and the longshoremen in particular are “greedy” because they want a good living in exchange for their time and labor. That’s all

    Truck drivers do quite a bit better than avg associates. Mgrs can make more depending on the store and their abilities. I've had opportunity at union trucking jobs but just can't bring myself to screw the rest of society by driving up the cost of goods and services to benefit myself. Sounds too much like government fiscal policy.
    I'm quite aware of what all hourly Walmart associates are and can be paid. And if I don't know I can walk into the living room and ask her. She's friends will all of the people leads in IN and OH.

    Screwing the rest of society lol
    Now that's funny.
    The Jealous Haters here are gonna hate.

    I am fine with negotiated wages and strikes are part of the dance.

    What I am not going to do is see anyone as a "good guy" or a "bad guy", which is increasingly difficult with some of the rhetoric, some would call propaganda, floating around.

    If the workers are not greedy because they want more money for themselves, then would you concede that the corporation is not greedy for wanting to making expenses as small as possible.

    Here's the actual contract they had:
    https://ilaunion.org/wp-content/uploads/MasterContract0-2021-12.pdf
    year 1 $20/hr, year 3 $24.75/hr, year 4 $31.88/hr and year 6 $39/hr
    Any hour worked before 8am or after 5pm are automatically 1.25 (48.75/hr), all saturdays/sundays 1.5 (58.50/hr) and any hour worked past 8 in a day at 58.50, and if past 5pm an additional .25 ($69/hr).
    20/ hour = 41,600
    24.75 = 51480
    31.88 = 66,310
    39 = 81,120
    Work nights? 48.75 = 101,400

    after their demands:
    35.40 = 73,632
    43.81 = 91,124.80
    56.43 = 117,374
    69.03 = 143.582
    nights: 86.29 = 179,483

    Not if you’re being honest it’s not. I have been involved of thousands of negotiations as a part of my profession and in the real world in a real negotiation all parties have the freedom to leave the table and go elsewhere as an option.
    You mean most folks can't hold an economy hostage during their negotiations?
