I prefer shooting 22's at 100 yards probably more than anything else. Mainly because of the cost savings :) I started on a savage MK2 but quickly snagged a CZ 457 varmint instead. The CZ's hold their own in with accurate smallbores, especially given the price point.

I set up a Savage MKII TR and it shoots well.
But have come to the conclusion that I'm a sporter rifle guy.
The Savage is heavy and while fine from a rest, is more than I want to lug around.
Even to and from the bench LOL

Im not as good as I used to be, so there's no sense in competition.
Consequently a good sporter does all I need.
But then, a good sporter is pretty boring at the range.

If I want to actually justify practice, .22 lr handgun.

I don't have a pedestal, but may try a DATR challenge off a bipod and rear bag.
Run the 1415 against the MKII TR.

Both have not been bedded, have factory triggers.

Savage wears a 6-18X Leupold Freedom VX in EGW rings (and base), DIP trigger guard. Has about 75 shots through it.

The Anschutz wears a 3.5-10X Vari X iii (1980 vintage) in D3 rings. Unknown round count.

Years ago I ran a 141 and 64M and the little sporter hung right with the target rig, using decent batch of WW Super X.
Unfortunately Ive not had good results with newer Super X. Seems as bad or worse than old Wildcat LOL
Did have a 184 Anschutz that LOVED the 42 gr Australian WW stuff.............called Max.
Of course that wasn't cheap, and hard to find ($60 a brick back a few yrs ago).

I still have a couple bricks............and no other .22 rifle we've had in the fam likes it.

    Figures.

So............Fiocchi HV, CCI Blazer and SK Standard Plus will be tested in both rigs.
Then once a favorite has been picked for each rifle, try a challenge.

Need a foam riser for my front bench bag.
Anschutz 1415 has a slick buttplate and was a bit low yesterday, so kinda squirrely.
Wish it had a rubber plate instead. May end up having a pad fitted.
See how it does after a good clean (bought used, just took it out and shot).
Am not one to continuously experiment.
    This hopefully a good sporter.
Rings/scope situated now where I can start actual testing.
Old beater 3.5-10XAO glossy in D3 11mm rings (.7 high).

    I actually like the 64.
    Smaller and lighter.

Had a 141, 64M and they were fine.
This 1415 has a decent enough trigger.

The 184 was a Flobert II action and the more fwd bolt handle made it kinda ugly.
That rifle was so light it was a pain to shoot offhand.

Pops had an Exemplar and it did well.

Liked the looks of the 54 sporters, big trigger guard w curve at front.
But found the 64 stuff to be tolerable.
HOWEVER..............neither feel that great to me. The stocks/grips are slick and feel a bit off to my hands.
    Add in a slick buttplate.
Honestly, I'd rather have a synth stock. The one on my CZ455 felt great. Plain but looked good.
Unfortunately the 455 had backwards safety and the new 457 synth stocks I don't like.
If my 455 had a "normal" safety I'd have been done w .22 lr rifles.

The 1415 is cool, a time piece. Trigger decent, it seems like it will be an OK shooter.
The stock however, just isn't quite what I prefer.

But my arthritis has been raging this weekend so my hands are a bit grumpy.

Lol, between my Cooper and the Annie I don't need another 22lr, But if I came across a fat barreled CZ 453 with single set, I would have a hard time walking away from it.

I just added an ARCA rail to my 455. I ordered it for my Remington 700, but sold the 700 before the rail arrived (which I didn't expect to do at all). I modified is slightly at the rear and made a mount so it fits nice onto the MDT chassis. I think I'm going to save up and change the PST out for a Tract Toric so I can dial a lot more drop.

My 1415 seems to do OK w SK standard plus but I ran out of vertical adj on the old Vari X III 3.5-10X AO.
Backed it off the stop 2 marks and used the lower duplex post as my aiming point. Worked.
    Was shooting 50 yards.

May swap ring positions to see if that fixes it. Cheapest and fastest experiment.

The Anschutz 1415 is a half incher w SK Standard Plus at 50 yards.
However I'm out of vert adj on the old Leupold Vari XIII 3.5-10X AO.
The rifle did NOT like CCI Blazer.
So am gonna send the old scope in for checkup.
if it tests good as is, then something else is amiss.
Eh, a 15MOA base should fix that.

The Savage MKII TR also liked the SK Standard Plus.
Switched to lower EGW rings, but think I'll go back to the next higher again.
My Peltor ear muff was rubbing the paint off the cheapo Boyds Tacticool stock (factory).
Guess I'll repaint it this week.
