My first deer kill. Got it with a shotgun about 15 ft away dropped instantly. 15 pointer officially #160 after field dressing.

huh.. 500 SW. Never considered that. Better round for deer than .44 mag?

S&W 500 Mag is a good round out to 100 yards or so, then it drops way too much for my liken. If you are at zero at 100 yards you will have a 12" to 13" drop at 200 yards. I considered this round one time, then when I researched the ballistics, I decide that it wasn't for me, plus the ammo is not cheap for it, but then again neither are shotgun sabots at $13 to $20 for a box of 5. :twocents:

H&R .44 pictured with a truglo red dot but that was replaced with a Nikon Prostaff 4X32. Simple and reliable. light home DIY crown debur and bore lap. Cheap to shoot and practice with my load of 23.5 grains h110 under a 240 XTP hollowpoint. Beautifully set in starline cases with a Winchester WLP primer. Will shoot near MOA all day long. Best part is it will adjust to myself, the wifey, and my 10 year old son. The Nikon has excellent eye relief so all of us can adjust the stock and the scope is no problem for any shooters.

the reciever is an sb2. after searching for the best price i picked up the m4 stock, forearm, recoil pad, and fitted ammo carrier for $80 shipped to my door at combathunting.com using the discount code New customer 100. i couldnt even find the stock alone locally for that without tax.

Fighting the wind finally paid off today...Saw 3 doe on Saturday and passed up since I didn't have a good shot.Didn't see crap yesterday. Was up in the stand at 6am this morning and around 6:30ish had 1 buck go under my stand and a few minutes later another buck came thru grunting and wheezing up a storm. If it would have been legal light i would have dropped the 2nd buck. Then at 8:26 I caught the rear end of a deer walking thru a thicket about 75 yards to my right. It stepped behind a tree and I got the .44mag ready.Soon as it stepped out I dropped it with a shot to the shoulder. After a few seconds it tried to drag it's self so I put a round thru it's spine.Hate seeing a deer suffer any longer then it has to.I thought I had a young doe until I got to it and realized it was a button buck.1 spike was 2 3/4 so I barely made the cut off.Sheewww
Word of advice,a hand loaded 240gr XTP will do major damage to a shoulder.Gonna drop my shots back a lil further from now on.Lost a whole shoulder's worth of meat.
Already got him processed up and in the freezer.Should be some mighty fine eating
Headin back out in the morning to try and fill my buck tag.Good luck to everyone and stay safe out there.

Got this 5 pointer in the last minute of shooting light this evening. I decided to go out when I got home from class early. Because of the weather, I decided to use the ground blind we have set up in the back corner of an alfalfa field. I got out there and settled in by about 4:45. I waited until about 20 minutes after sunset and headed back to the truck. I was walking and saw something out of the corner of my eye and he was standing in the field about 85 yards away from me, broadside, just looking at me. I raised up, fired, and he went about 35 yards and crashed in the little marsh in the field. I am using a CVA Wolf .50 cal with a Bushnell Trophy XLT DOA 250 3-9x40 scope. I am shooting Barnes 250 grain Spit-Fire TMZ bullets. Man that Barnes liquified both lungs and his liver and punched through the other side!

Made a last minute decision to hunt this evening and should've just stayed home. Didn't see anything...again...then the storm started to roll in and it was time to leave the tree.

Got this buck at 4:00 on Saturday. Not a huge rack but he's a decent size. Should be a lot of meat. Also got a doe at about 9:00 in the morning, but didn't bother taking a picture.

Had a fox come sit on a log about 30 feet from me for about 5 minutes.

    My turn

:D This morning we had heavy fog.. I was in my stand resting after a long hike and a climb up the tree in my summit. When daylight broke I could see a buck ahead of me and to my right. I passed. Then 10 minutes later a doe comes running in with a buck behind her. He was small and I wanted to shoot her but limbs were in my way. A 1/2 hr went by and I saw two small does to my right about 70 yds, also to small. Then at a 1/4 past 9 here comes a big doe down the same trail. 70 yds or so away with a nice buck behind her. They started to head on down the trail going south east. I'm north east of them. I grunted and got their attention, they held for a few minutes then started off again. The buck tried to give her some attention and when he did she came towards me bringing him with her. 50 yds S&W 629 classic in 44 mag, open sights, put 2 holes in his left shoulder and dropped him. Haven't green scored him yet and defenitly not my biggest, but he is with the handgun. Now I can concentrate on does.

I got out to the blind around 6:00 this morning. Had a hard time getting around because of the thick fog. It was a beautiful morning. It was quiet and calm, with a very slight breeze that kicked up around 6:30. I wasn't sure if I would see anything because visibility was about 75 yards tops. So, I couldn't see, and the wet leaves made it so I couldn't hear anything but the water dripping from the trees. Sitting there scanning what I could see, when about 7:45, I see this buck walking from behind a tree about 40 yards out. I had my H&R Handi-rifle .44 mag leaning up against the side of the blind and had to grab it quick. The buck wasn't going real fast, but he was walking at a steady pace through the woods. I lined up the sights and grunted at him to stop. Nope, he was on a mission and wasn't stopping. I squeezed the trigger and the 240gn Hornady XTP found its mark. He was quartering away from me, so I hit him a little far back. Grazed one lung, but totally destroyed the other. He had a small 8 point rack, with 2 tines broken. He should be good eating!
