Actually the collect bushing did improve accuracy quite a bit compared to the looser fitting bushings of the Commercial Model, and no, they don't compare to a well fitted solid bushing common today. I've only ever seen one collect bushing break in my 30+ years messing with the 1911 platform, the majority broke because people would not take them down correctly.

And to add to the confusion, there are 80 series pistols with the collet bushing. I have one.

Yes Sir, Colt used the collet bushing up to at least 1988, I have a 1987 stainless MKIV with a collet, I had a blued 1988 MKIV that had the collet bushing.

STi sends ACT-MAG's with their handguns? Or is that an extra?

    Hello,

The Spartan is built using an Armscor frame and slide, with STI internals.

In other words, it is pretty much the same thing as a Rock Island, just better quality fire controls.

I would suspect the ACT-Mag is sent with the pistol. The case is the same used by Armscor suppliers.

I have found that, if I put a dimple in the follower of the ACT-Mags, they function just fine for practice. In fact, they went from malfing all the time to not at all after dimpling with a center punch.

Did you dimple it from the top of the follower or the bottom? I haven't had any malfunctions, but I've only shot about 70 rounds with my two ACT-MAGs. If it will help at all with the rounds moving forward then I'll definately do it.

You punch from the bottom, the raised area should be on top of the follower.

Another new guy so I will post my "admission" to the 1911 club....

    picture.php

Fairly early Baer C7, with Baer marked MMC adjustable tritiums, factory dehorned, and currently wearing Ahrends grips. Of my 1911's this is the one I always come back to, and have trusted going "downrange". Phenomenal accuracy for a 4.25 gun and though YMMV this one has proven 100% reliable no matter what I feed it (including my worst handloads) despite the legendary Baer tight tolerances. Now riding in a Sparks SSII instead of my survival vest but just as happy there ;)

The MK VII gun is shown with its original camo case. This gun is chambered in 38 Super. Its in 99% condition. Very likely less than 10 of this model in this caliber exist in the world.

Here is an MC finished 9mm. I actually have a few of these, but this is unfired and with the original black case, this gun is in 99.8% condition. Not sure how many of these exist, roughly 300 guns were chambered in 9mm, but that includes MK V, MVI and MC models. There are rumors less than 10 that were chambered in MKVII as well. I have 9mm Combat Masters in all but the MKVII model.

And a rare pair of odd caliber odd model Detonics Combat Master

Followed me home, it just didn't get along with the other guns in the case and had to go.

Apparently it suffers from a superiority complex.

Its a vintage (late 70's/early 80's) Detonics ScoreMaster target pistol. I believe these were the first bushingless 1911 full size pistols produced, but that honor could go to the ServiceMaster model?

You guys are wetting my appetite, for a .45. I don't have one, but am considering a purchase. Any brand or 1911 model stand out for for value, and performance. I don't want to hijack the thread.

SA "American" Loaded 1911. I replaced the target sights with fixed night sights. I also replaced the 2 piece FLGR with a GI setup. She also sports double diamond grips by Esmeralda.

but my true love is my Colt WWI Repro. Out of the 1911s i have owned, this one is by far my favorite. It has the best trigger and is the most accurate. I have actually contemplated carrying it because it's so comfy.

That grip reminds me of those pictures that you stare at and there ends up being a sailboat on a big wave or something. Pretty sweet looking:)

Yes!! I see it! You have to let your eyes relax and look through the grip! :D

Man, this is a great thread. :yesway: So many excellent 1911 choices...so few dollars. ;)
