I have the chance to purchase a Colt 1911 70 Gov't mfg 1973 never been fired one owner gun. All the paperwork, recipt, and box are undamaged.

Do I shoot it or not? I'm not in to collecting but I don't know if I can shoot it.

I got my Grandpa's Colt M1911 from 1913 used in WWI and WWII, and I had to shoot it. It was just begging for it. It boy did it feel perfect. Cleaned it well and put it in the holster. I only carry it on veterans day, memorial day, and 4th of July.

This time I will go against the grain considering I am not a collector of anything. I would keep it a safe queen. There are lot's of 1911's out there to shoot.

Shoot it - unless you want it to be a safe queen/display piece. Even then - you can still shoot it - just make sure to clean and properly lubricate and protect from rust.

I view buying a gun very similarly to buying a hammer or a power tool. No sense in buying it if you're not going to use it :).

I think you answered your own question. You are not a collector. If that is the case, why buy it, if you would not shoot it?

If you won't shoot it, don't buy it. /thread

Kind of like finding a 40 year old virgin... unless you are handing out nun outfits, there's only one thing to be done :dunno:

If you're going to buy that gun, I wouldn't shoot (soot?!) it.

On the other hand, I wouldn't buy a gun unless I was planning to shoot it.
