Came back to this thread and can't possibly read all the replies but want to express how thankful I am that those you who believe Zimmerman should have "minded his own business" are not my neighbors. I actually want the kind of neighbor who notices new people in the area, or even keeps an eye on them until they leave the area. Maybe if I had more nosy neighbors junkies used needles wouldn't keep showing up in the alley behind my property. If we want to keep the bad from invading our lives, the good will need to band together.

Just out of curiosity, so it is safe to say that if you had a family member visiting the area, you'd have no issue with a marked patrol car following them, then the officer exiting the car and following them on foot (even thought your family member had done nothing wrong), until they either reached your home, or left the area?

Sure, this is where my beliefs fall out of the norm here. If I'm doing nothing wrong, how am I injured by someone questioning why I am somewhere? It takes two seconds to say "visiting relatives", heck I may even waste the breath it takes to say have a good day. Same goes for someone visiting me, if they are so rude that they can't spare those two seconds to be polite I don't want them here. Certainly if they think being questioned on their intentions is grounds for an attack.

Although I must add the likelihood of the police doing that here are slim to none. I can't even get one to role his window down at an intersection to speak to me.

Watched FOX News last night, some fill-in for O'reilly.

Had some supposed legal person on there, he as well as the fill-in, black.

They both put out that Z should be charged.
The legal guy said Z eventually will be charged and prosecuted.

They did not go into detail on why or what the charges would be, what was done wrong.

It appeared to me to be a mini panel of folks of color, in an effort to appease a viewing group (my guess is a group that for all practical purposes doesn't much exist).

How many blacks that watch Fox News regularly were in the "Give us what we want so we won't riot" marches ?

    I expected better.

So I'm left wondering........did Fox throw a bone out to stop some barking dogs in other yards?

Or are they as bad as the rest?

Fair enough, but just so you know, if I did such a thing I would honestly consider myself harassing someone. I don't believe in targeting people without a legit cause that I can't articulate.

As long as I didn't get a bill for the safety escort I wouldn't care.

As a kid and adult I have been asked by others "who I am" when in other neighborhoods.
I went to get my cousin last week and his neighbor down a ways came out and watched me, until cuz came out and waved at him.

New neighbor, my truck common at my cousin's during hunting seasons, he simply didn't know who I was.

So he burned some of HIS time looking at me like a sparrow hawk.

    I could have cared less.

If he came down and asked who I was I'd have told him.

It's not harassment until they do it repeatedly. In fact, somebody checking on what's going on, around my family member's area, I think to be a good thing :)

FWIW I watch probably 6 hrs of TV a week, tops. That blip was the most Fox News I've seen in weeks.

I find most of what's on that thing (any TV) to be junk (watch AMC "Walking Dead" and maybe a History or TDC show once in a while).

I shut my TV off for a couple of yrs and didn't miss it.

Now Youtube and internet........yeah, I'm probably on that too much.

I guess, I'm a lil more diplomatic. I woukdn't take kindly to some simply saying "who are you." A person doing such is very likely to be ignored. If someone catches my attention, I will pass the olive branch and say hello, introduce myself, and tell them that I'd never seen them around before. People when presented in such a way are typically forthcoming with their answers, and the who interaction brief. If they are up to no good, they will typically scram. If they are good people, no issue.

But then again, I'm from the real south, and we will walk up to anybody rather than peep out windows and peer around corners :D

Can we forward this to your supervisor as a recommendation for some type of reward? If I believed this to be standard, in all probability my opinion of police would make a 180 degree turn.

One who swears while talking to 911 would only offer kindness to a stranger that he's swearing to others about. I bet he went up to Martin to hand him a visitor's packet and offered him a guided tour of the place.

I don't know, is this in a private gated community in which the residents wanted to limit access?

i think we need to look at what exactly they are calling a gated community. i've seen them with an actual gate and guard house, and i've seen gated community mean they have a fence of sorts and only one or two entrances that arent guarded or gated.

    definition is everything sometimes

How do you know Zimmerman could not articulate a cause. Why does he need to do so if he's on private property in a gated community? I find it fascinating that people sitting 1500 miles can see that Zimmerman is creepy and racist, but Zimmerman can not be believed to have evaluated someone 20 feet away to be acting suspicious or so strangely as to make him that believe that person was "on something." Isn't it funny that some here can believe that if a teen is walking 1000 yards away on your 27 acres it's jim-dandy to blow him away, but it's immoral and a civil rights violation to ask that same teen standing 15 feet from your kitchen door what he's doing? I'm left wondering why Martin is assumed to be permitted to go wherever he wished without question in a private gate community because he's the son of a friend of a resident, however, Zimmerman, a property holder and appointed watchman, is innately evil for ever stepping out of his vehicle. Those are just some of the amazing things I've learned on INGO, who needs CNN or MSNBC?
