It’s possible but not within the next few years more than likely. In March my old company shut down 25+ stores. Mine was one of the affected. No open stores so I had to take severance.
The next step is district manager. They likely have people lined up for that. I don’t gain anything from...
That makes sense. It’s only fair that they get offered OT first. I wouldn’t depend on over time thankfully but, taking a huge pay cut would hurt my feelings :crying:
That’s interesting. Having worked in restaurants my whole life I always thought I should have got into maintenance work. The maintenance guys definitely make more than I do as a GM.
I wonder how Local Union Business Agents find out about people that are non union to recruit them
Hahahaha I cannot die broke. If I can find somewhere with OT I’ll be ok. I don’t have kids yet thankfully but, I’m definitely used to the amount of money I make. But, like you said it’s for the long term gain.
I know that must have been tough to work the 3 part time jobs and going to school...
I agree. Real estate is not looking good right now in Chicago. The building I work in has multiple floors of offices that are empty. It used to be filled but I imagine the cost of renting the space out is not worth it. After Covid the companies never returned
Interesting. Moving around a lot doesn’t sound too fun. Most helper jobs I’ve seen pay less than 20 an hour so it would be tough to pay the bills without overtime so, I will continue searching. The end goal is journeyman. I wish I had started this path sooner but it is what it is. Thank you for...
That's not bad! That's good to know. I'd definitely travel if they pay for a room. It would only benefit me to do so. Getting more experience and seeing new places sounds like fun
Hm I think I'd probably do that. If I need thousands of hours to become to complete my apprenticeship, then it would only benefit me. Good to know thanks!
How does traveling work? Driving to the job site as a team or solo? Assuming it’s traveling far away. I know it’s a dumb question so I apologize lol. I’d love to learn construction as it can be very useful. I always found it to be fascinating
Thanks! I greatly value job security. My last company shut my store down with less than 12 hour notice (Company isn’t doing well and shut down 27 locations). I’ll see if there’s any insulator opportunities near me
Wow I guess union benefits are that good. I’ve heard some people say that unions are a bad thing. I didn’t believe it but seeing that is encouraging! Thank you!
Wow that’s great money. I make a little over $33 an hour (salaried though) as a GM. Making more money isn’t why I’m trying to transition but it is a plus that I may earn more some day elsewhere. What you do sounds very interesting. I’ll have to look into that. I appreciate your insight!
Very interesting I will check that out. Thank you so much! Do you think they’d take a chance on someone with experience like mine? If not, what jobs do you think I should take to gain relevant experience?
