      Cubic Boron Nitride Love

My Bark River stick compounds, diamond sprays and pastes are still seeing some use, but they have largely been replaced with Ken's CBN emulsions (available from Knives Ship Free or Chef Knives to Go). I use cubic boron nitride on linen belts for power knife sharpening, and balsa and kangaroo...

      Smallish folder recommendations

Spyderco Dragonfly ZDP-189. I removed the clip, so she has been riding comfortably in the bottom of my pocket for 3 years. 3 5/16" closed. Only 1.2 ounces. Holds a crazy sharp 15 degrees per side edge very well. Stropping with BRK black and green compounds easily brings the edge back when...

      WRAPPING IZULA HANDLE

Manatee is right. A little rust on 1095 is not a big deal. Just don't let it go too long. I don't wrap my ESEE's for that reason. Stock micarta scales or aftermarket tkc g10 scales live on mine. The powder coat is good, but I still remove the scales to clean and treat with Tuf Glide every once...

The knife is sharp, the owner not so much

If used for food prep: mineral oil or olive oil. Otherwise, synthetics work best for me; Super Gun Quick, Tuf Glide, Strike Hold and the like have low molecular weight so they soak into the micro pores of the steel to displace water molecules and then dry to a super slick film that lasts.

      Any thoughts on air guns

Guess I'll stick with scarecrows and traps until I find out about the regs in my small town. An off grid mini farm is sounding better all the time.

      Any thoughts on air guns

Living in the city limits I've had to learn to defend my vegetable garden with a Gamo Shadow rifle with scope, and a wrist rocket. The Gamo is a break barrel 1000 FPS and has seen a lot of action for 10 years. Still going strong. I've taken down many rabbits, groundhogs and raccoons with her...

Gardeners: how are your gardens doing?

I garden in 4' x 8' wood frame beds, various heights. Several of them had rotted beyond being useful so I had to rebuild. Most of the garden went in later than usual, but that's OK. Biggest issue is hungry critters. Moles kill tender seedings in their pursuit of worms and grubs. Baby groundhogs...

The new Gunny Hunter from Bark River. CPM 3V and curly birch burl with white liners. I love the hand filling grip and the look of this blade.

      all around sharpener

The Edge Pro Apex is a fabulous system. Diamond stones are great for free handing (get the largest you can afford for home use). A belt sander works great if you have a good eye, a steady hand and are careful not to overheat the blade. Some folks recommend paper wheels on a buffer, but that will...
