Generally does not indicate that it is in stock, only that they carry it. The times I've been in, if they didn't have exactly what I was looking for, they had an acceptable substitute. They keep their powder in a different building, so it can be a bit frustrating when they have to leave and go...
My list is all over the map. I'll be looking for a deal on IMR 4895, a Lee .308 collet die, MREs, a rifle scabbard, and Froglube. If the price is right, I'd love to pick up a Ruger 10/22 Takedown as well. Like always, I'd never turn down a good deal on 9mm,.45, .223, or .308 brass.
I don't know of any local shops (regardless of whether they're open or not on a Saturday night), that carry just the decapping pins/mandrels. That includes Profire. I had to order mine from fsreloading, but have seen them on natchezss as well. Good luck.
Here are a few loads that I've tried and have had good success with. An added bonus for those using the Lee auto disk powder measure, I've added the disk configurations.
.223 Remington Hornady 50 gr SPSX
Overall Length: 2.260"
Case Length: 1.760"
Alliant Power Pro Varmint
Max Load: 26.3...
Just a caveat to the list I sent: Always check the load data against the bullet sizes you'll be loading. Some of the powders, while compatible with both .223 and .308, may only suitable for lighter .308 or heavy .223 bullets (depending on the original intended use of the powder).
Here's a list I compiled awhile back with .223 and compatibility with .308. My favorites are Accurate 2230 for its excellent metering and IMR 4895 for its accuracy:
Accurate 2200*
Accurate 2015*
Accurate 2230*
Accurate 2460*
Accurate 2520*
Alliant AR-Comp*
Alliant Power Pro 1200 R
Alliant Power...
Not to split hairs, but the rules and regulations say that rifles deemed military round must be purchased from TSAW. Don't ask me what that means exactly, but I'm guessing that includes .223/5.56, so I'll continue to take my business to Fox Prairie or BGF...
A buddy recently showed me an affordable/reusable solution that minimizes storage space. FoodSaver makes a little handheld jobby that let's you vacuum seal their ziplock bags over and over. They also sell larger bags and containers. It's only $20 from Wally-World. Throw a silica pack in there...
Noblesville Wal-Mart had CCI 22LR in stock this afternoon. I expected to see a line, but most in the sporting goods area seemed uninterested. I picked up my 3 boxes and there were about 15 or so boxes left. Otherwise, there was plenty of .223/5.56, 9mm, .40, and .45 in the case.
The only place with CFE223 when we left tonight was the place in the back for $27.99. All of their powder was over priced. They were asking $29.99 for a pound of Varget. Plenty of primer deals - several places had Winchesters in the $32 - $34 range. Projectile prices are going to take some...
Just some honest feedback - I have a Ruger LC9 and like the slim profile for carry. However, I hate the long trigger pull. I'd recommend the Sig 938 or the S&W Shield. Both have good reputations and feel solid in hand.
I decided to take a leap of faith and buy a box of 500 .308 once fired cases from Henderson Defense. I hadn't found much feedback about them online, but decided to take a chance. Based on the price of brass from the LGS and the last Indy 1500, I'm more than pleased with what I paid even with...
I use walnut shells with good results. The grains are small enough that they dont get stuck inside the cases. Got a big box pretty inexpensively from Harbor Freight. Another tip is to not deprime your brass until after you've tumbled it so it doesn't get stuck in the primer hole.
If I can find more, I really like Accurate 2230. It meters very well and I can get away with using around 22 gr loads vs the 25 I use with Alliant power pro varmint.
Is this a newer deal than they had at the beginning of the week? I was ready to pull the trigger until I saw shipping was $15. I can't even get to their site right now.
What kind of dies are you using? Is the crimp a taper crimp or are you using a Lee factory crimp die? If the bullet moves freely, I would not use them. The OAL can change and cause a multitude of problems.
That is a great deal. I think my SSA was around $170 + shipping, but if you're in the market for a LPK, this is hard to beat. This trigger is absolutely fantastic btw.
