      Longest shot with a handgun

I once watched a groundhog hunting video where a guy nailed a groundhog at a hair over 300 yards with a scoped .357 Mag. It was awesome. I haven't personally shot past 25 yards.

That Was Energetic... Bullseye Powder Loads???

I've been having the same problems finding a Chrono as well. Last I read, 4.5gr Bullseye over a 230gr LRN produces a velocity in the high 700s.

      Vacuum sealing ammo

I understand. Instead of vaccuum packing them, why not store the loaded ammunition into ammo cans? I believe they are air/water tight as well. I can't seem to find it now, but awhile back I ran across a post where a gentleman loaded primers into cases and proceeded to apply 3 liquids to the...

      Vacuum sealing ammo

In my opinion, vaccuum sealing is just wasting time/money. There's no need for it as ammunition will remain ready to go for much longer than you and I will live. In a SHTF scenario, that ammo should already be loaded into mags and ready to go. Looks cool though! ETA: My 7.62x54R ammo is...

That Was Energetic... Bullseye Powder Loads???

I started out with 5.0 of Bullseye under a Missouri Bullet Company 230gr LRN bullet but experienced excessive leading in my FNP45. Dropped it down to 4.75gr and it got better, but still a bit too much leading for me. Dropped it down again to 4.5gr and it's absolutely perfect. Saves a little...

      ground hogs

I tried a mature female for the heck of it. Disgusting. I was then told the young pups are better, so I tried one. They aren't bad.

      ground hogs

The mature ones do not taste good at all. The pups do though! I've shot and killed numerous groundhogs out of trees. They like to eat the leaves.

Today was a beautiful day to build a backstop...

I appreciate the offer, and if I need help I'll let ya know. I'm going to try using some different nails than the 5" 40D nails. I had to grab the 4lb sledge to drive them in because they grip so well. This thing won't be coming apart anytime soon. :rockwoot: Depending upon what time I get...

Today was a beautiful day to build a backstop...

Correct. I am going to box in the backside of the stop, but only about 8" thick. I've got plenty of fill dirt, but it craters when shot, and the reason I'm using sand is to be certain nothing gets through it. Like this. The brown is the sand. Also, I've been contemplating adding a 3'...

Today was a beautiful day to build a backstop...

I'm going to take my truck and have them fill it up, so probably a ton or so at first. There's a gravel pit about 5 minutes from my house that I will get my sand from. I'll hafta grab the shovel and get to work I guess :D The gap that I am going to make after boxing in the backside will be as...

Today was a beautiful day to build a backstop...

I have had the railroad ties stacked for about a month now, but decided today to finish it up by tying them all together and bracing the stack. Using 5" 40D ringed-shank pole-barn nails, I used some 2x4 planks from some heavy duty steel-coil pallets on the backside of the stack to brace them...

GM is forcing me out of my job.

They have been careful not to use the word "outsource". The company that is going to purchase the rights to supply the parts is headed out of Canada, but either way it's still heading out of the country. I've never been one to get down in the dumps about anything, and I've got one of the...

GM is forcing me out of my job.

I work in an automotive factory which supplies parts to GM, Ford and Chrysler. GM accounts for about 1/3 to 1/2 of our work, and GM has decided to pull their work from our plant, which will result in a 50-60 worker displacement. I will be among one of those 50-60 workers that will be...

German Shepherd Mix Puppy. What's in the mix?

Thanks everyone! I'll check out his tongue today for the purple discoloring and see what I can find. There is a local animal clinic that offers an obedience class to new dog owners. You receive 1/2 off when you adopt a dog from a shelter so I'll be looking strongly into that. I'm going...

Does Scratches And Wear Add Character To Your Firearm?

Wear marks definately give them character. They are a tool, and with use, should show normal wear. Keeping a firearm from sustaining needless damage from being dropped and such is good practice. But there's some wear that is unavoidable.
