How many people here will be switching to crossbows next year?

So it seems that those who currently bowhunt do not want to make the change. I bowhunt and won't make the change anytime soon... And it seems that those who don't have time/energy for bow hunting want to begin using crossbow. I understand those who have children that cannot shoot a bow due...

      Feral Hogs? In Indiana?

Not entirely true. I spent this past winter and spring in Oklahoma and was able to kill multiple hogs on property with an abundance of deer and turkey. They do compete but have not excluded either. Just about every night there would be hogs chasing deer off the bait or just the opposite. We...

      The Feral Hog Problem

There are wild hogs in southern Indiana. The numbers aren't extreme but they are there. I haven't been able to take any myself unfortunately. If you want to hunt them in another state, such as Oklahoma, there is no tag to buy. You just need to find a rancher willing to have you.

Great Thread on Hog Hunting, but what do you do with the kill?

Chops, ribs, roasts, hams, burger, sausage, steaks, etc... Basically any cut you can get from a domestic hog minus the bacon (fat on wild hogs is not desirable). I did a whole 225lb hog (not in one piece) the Wednesday before last. It fed 45+ Army captains and wives. There was less than 5lbs...

Remove your guns from the apartment or you are evicted

Just one more reason why Purdue is much better than IU! I wasn't supposed to have firearms in my fraternity house at Purdue.... We had a raccoon that broke into the house one day and was not willing to leave. Since I just so happened to have my bow in my room, no guns of course, I...

First time Wild Hog Hunting, What do I need?

Good luck with the hunt! It is a blast! I just returned from OK where I spent many a weekend taking down hogs! Here is a post with a couple we took a few weeks ago. https://www.indianagunowners.com/forums/the_great_outdoors/147353-good_night_for_us_bad_night_for_them_graphic_pics.html

I don't think overkill is possible....:ar15: but you may want to think twice before taking a heart shot if you plan on getting roasts later. (a neck shot would be suggested) Any of those cartridges will work just fine. My buddy usually uses a .308 but since he finished the 50 Beowulf last week...

      What was your first shotgun?

Mine was a winchester 1300 20ga with wood stock and gloss bluing. Used it to kill my first deer, squirrel, rabbit, etc... I still have it but it doesn't do much killing anymore.

I hate to give the same old answer, but it really just depends on shot placement. I've seen them killed with everything from a .22lr to a .475 turnbull. The most difficult part is their tendency to not bleed well. Neck shots are a good solution to having to track a limited blood trail...

That's correct. I'm out here for the Field Artillery Captains Career Course. I have been out here for over 6 months and only have a week left! I will be happy to get back to green grass and trees even if it is cold. I will miss hog huntin' but look forward to Indiana deer!

Based on the ones I have had, it is a little different but not much. It is much leaner. The fat is not like domestic pig fat and should be trimmed as much as possible. The pork chops and roasts are the most similar of the cuts I have found. Ham is difficult to keep moist but still good. I...

My wife won't let me go to all you can eat places...... for good reason. Last time I had all you can eat crab legs was at Grand Victoria Casino, I must have gained 10lbs.

The worst part about it was yesterday when I was loading them in the freezer at my buddy's house. He has an upright freezer in his garage and I had to load them by myself in there (he was at his kids' soccer game.) While I was putting the "body bags" in, there was someone looking at his...

Feral hogs are not native to anywhere in the US but their populations have expanded rapidly in the south since introduction. According to Purdue University's Wildlife Coflicts Information Website, they have been in Indiana since the 90's. Since they are not native there are no regulations...
