OK, I know starting one of these threads will probably get me nailed (especially on ARFcom).
Here's the deal, on my way to church Sunday on Rt. 49 probably about 5-10 miles outside of Kouts, I got nailed. 71 in a 55. The cop had several cars in front of him, so he couldn't swing around very quickly.
When he approached my window, he gave me the usual BS. He was getting very beligerent with me, and there was no reason for this. He then continued to say, "I had to do over 100 just to catch up with you." Over 100? Really? For a minor traffic citation?
I travel Rt. 49 every day, and each day, Porter County Sheriff's cars whiz by me, and it just really pisses me off. I really feel like its a slap in the face. "Ha Ha look what I can do". I just want cops to obey the speed limit, is that really too much to ask? That's all I expect and want.
Because of his attitude, I filed a complaint today, which I know will not go anywhere. I spoke to Sheriff David Lain personally, and believe me, I will continue to follow up with him on a daily basis. I was told something about OIC. What is this? Is it a higher chain where I can file a complaint? I want this to go in this cop's file. I want more than a slap on the wrist for him. There was no reason for him to act in the manner that he did, other than to throw his weight around. Probably has a small penis.
Anyway, I called to get the amount for the ticket...$150. Not bad I guess. With the deferall, it is $242!!!! Never in my life have I EVER had a speeding ticket that cost more than $150. I talked to some people at work today, and they all said you do not mess around in Porter County; they will nail you, and its not cheap.
Here's my question: WITHOUT GETTING A LAWYER, what are my chances of getting it knocked down to a non-moving violation? Do I show up at my court date and ask for it? But, if I go to court for this, won't I end up paying MORE? (Court costs, ticket fees, etc etc?)
I've never gotten a ticket in Porter County before...this was truly an eye opener. I've gotten all tickets in Lake County, and the deferall amount is ALWAYS (in my case anyway) half of the ticket amount. So, if the ticket was $150, I'd pay $75 and get the deferall. I thought it'd work the same way here. Imagine my surprise when she told me it would cost $242!!!!!!
I know there are folks on here who have some insight, so please chime in. I could use all the help I can get. Really, what's my best option? $242 is a lot to swallow, especially now that I find out I might be losing my job...when it rains, it pours.
Please, no one tell me "well you should do the speed limit and this wouldn't have happened." I don't need it. EVERYONE speeds; I don't care who you are. EVERYONE does it. On another note: radar detectors...a friend of mine is a truck driver, and has the Valentine One...even though its illegal to have a radar detector in a truck....are these any good? Or are there other ones better out there?
Thanks for your help.
