Interesting. I thought range and fuel economy would play a larger role in a SHTF/get-outta-dodge vehicle. Yes, I would love an old lifted wrangler with the I6 bolted to a 5-speed to confidently traverse through hell. However, I think a fuel efficient AWD crossover with decent clearance would win here.

Yep, it would win, but you have to give up your man card! :)

disagree...if your shtf involves climbing rocks, going through snow, and getting across muddy areas, your crossover may be lacking. To add, not all AWD are build equally...take my volvo for an example, it's partime AWD and only actuate after you apply some much throttle, by the time AWD kicks in you are either buried or lost you traction via too much applied throttle.

subaru's on the other hand, is fulltime AWD...while it acts like my 4WD on my jeep, you get the downside of Independent suspension. I rather have this over parttime AWD, but I rather have a solid axle 4WD.

To add, AWD uses a prop shaft to connect the 4 wheels either in part time or full time, whereas, 4WD is directly connected together.
