I originally had my Glock23 posted up there. And while I love it and all - I think this is more of a dream post As I will find it hard to spend $1050 on an EMP... $1000 on a 5-7..... and $1700+ on an Mk23.......

On terms of functionality though - Glock 23 / XD-40 / PMR-30 (i should want a plinker huh )

Great choices here. Here's my vote:
.22 for plinking / small game (Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mark II/III)
.38/.357 - 4" - 6" for HD + legal for deer too. (S&W 586/686 or Ruger GP100)
9 mm - small enough for CC (Kel-Tec PF9, Glock 26, Ruger LC9, lots more...)
