Shame is a powerful motivation. When one does something this stupid to a new friend, it is very hard to take the phone call. How many times did we hide under the bed when we heard dad calling our name? I can understand the guy not wanting to talk to you. I do not condone it, though.

Make a mistake, do something stupid, go talk to the injured party. Explain it without prevarication or justification. Just speak up, fess up, shut up and pay up.

I recommend cutting him some slack to let him get over his shame. If he does not answer the phone in 24 hours, call the law and let them deal with it.

    Condolences. Sorry for your trouble.

the um, person could also be charged with illegal dumping. How do we know he wanted to shoot? He may have just wanted to dump the truck and get rid of it.

Call until 24 hrs. Have it towed. Pay for it. Small claims for 24 hour storage, towing, and property damage.

Also, document each time you've tried to call. Photograph your cell call log or get a paper statement from the cell company on their letterhead to CYOA.

We've all made bad decisions. I can't imagine the other side of the story that would make this an event which is not disrespectful to the property owner but until we hear both sides it's kind of up in the air.

Fess up truck driver - what happened?

    Hmmmm

I think there's a lesson here about "internet buddies".

He should have at least called or left you a message. All the rest can probably be considered unintentional.
