    Tired argument is tired.

I CC and in my personal opinion, the pros far outweigh the cons.

From my standpoint, two things are certain though:

    1. I will never push my views on someone else for carrying differently than me and CERTAINLY wouldn't insult someone for it.

    2. The most important thing is good, law-abiding citizens are carrying...Regardless if they have a shirt over it or not.

I want everyone to carry how they feel comfortable...Just leave me and my preferences the hell alone.

I see a lot's of OC'er talk about not spending their money where they can't OC, but how many OC'ers make their money where they can't OC?

Why is one justified but not the other if its a matter of principle or safety or an exercise of a right?

No it isn't. That's a false dichotomy. In our country. Your career isn't chosen for you.....yet

This thread is not an attack on CCers.

We don't attack CCers here on INGO. CCers get attacked in the real world.

This thread is intended to discuss various reasons of why CC is not for us.

If you are a CCer reading this, you may want to avert your eyes, lest this turn into a shouting match. We've already won that argument.

    Here goes.

    1. OC is so much more comfortable.

    2. OC works a a crime deterrent.

    3. I am not an undercover cop trying to trick you into attacking me so I can yell "Surprise!" and shoot you.

    4. OC gives people an opportunity to ask questions and learn about gun laws.

    5. OC desensitizes the sheeple, and they learn that guns aren't evil, oppressive tyrannical totalitarian socialist governments are.

    6. OC gives me an opportunity to meet friends who would have otherwise not known that I carry.

    7. It make me look bada**.

    8. I'm an attention whore.

    LOL!!!

There is no false dichotomy. It's called prioritization.

    Help me with your answer.

You believe that you HAVE to choose between two alternatives. Food onthe table OR OC at work

I say that's a false dichotomy. Do you believe there are any other alternatives?

I also think that if one starts a thread titled such as this one then then never means never but I still believe words mean something.

First off let me preface this with I 100% support the right to OC and respect people's decision to do so. The following is only my opinion.

This is probably going to ruffle some feathers but here it goes... I truly believe there are quite a few people out there who OC because they like the attention they get from it. Regardless of what they say, they like the looks/stares/questions they get from people in public. Also, some people don't care what kind of attention they are getting as long as they are getting it.

Ok now WAIT before you start flaming me. I also believe there is a segment of people who OC because they simply find CC to be to uncomfortable for the gun they wish to carry. Also there are people who OC because they just want to exercise their right to do so, or they believe that it gives them a tactical advantage/crime deterrent (which I personally disagree with).

I don't see myself ever wanting to OC in 99% of everyday carry situations, mainly because I believe I have a tactical advantage in nearly every situation by carrying concealed, which is why I carry a gun in the first place (self defense).

Thanks for all the replies. I'm happy to see this hasn't turned ugly. Yet.

My original frustration has now subsided. Yes, I do CC, I carried two BUGs today concealed, plus my G19 openly. I do CC at work. There aren't many gun friendly places when it comes to employees. I need to earn money, so I deal with it. That doesn't mean I agree with it.

It comes down to choice. I don't OC for attention. I attended a birthday party for my uncle's mother today. Out of nearly 40 people, mostly seniors, not a one gave me look, or asked me about it. Most people don't say anything. That's how it should be.

When cell phones first came out, I'm sure people wore them and people asked about them, but now, it's commonplace. I want guns to be mainstream. For people to see a person carrying and not think twice about it. That's one of the reasons I like to do it. Plus, more comfortable, and, well you read my OP.

I'm not here to disagree with a CCer on his choice to CC. Some people aren't comfortable with OC. That's fine. I was asked to CC at this party by my mother, and I, of course, declined. I did that before, I didn't like it. I felt dirty, like I was hiding something. I see nothing wrong with a firearm, so there's no reason to conceal it.

    That's just my $0.02.

I guess one of the things i think about most when choosing a carry type is....like the Lucky mart near me in Merrillville not to long ago, if that guy came into commit that crime when there was actually people in the mart and seen that someone was OC'ing, he of course was CC'ing.....he would have shot the OC'er due to the fact that an armed customer would have spoiled the robbery...and now your gun is out there for more crimes, now if they were CC'ing...MAYBE...he would have had them get on the floor.

I know you never know whats going to transpire, but thats my train of thought....i mostly CC.

Good point, BK. Also, with cases like T_F's and others, the police know that we aren't doing anything wrong. They will stop harassing us, and unlawfully detaining us.

    I thought of another reason.

My gun doesn't get clogged with lint, so I clean it less often.

And I won't attack you for saying this, but here is something to consider.

If he wanted to rob the place, chances are, he wasn't prepared to murder someone. He wants to come in, get the money, and go. If he kills someone in the process, now he's got that to deal with.

Yes, some criminals truly don't care. They'll kill for for $5. That said, most of them are "reasonable." Reasonable for a criminal. What I mean by that is that they have a natural fear of mortality, and will not attack an armed target. They will not add a murder charge to their robbery charge.

I know someone who stopped a bank robbery. He was CCing. The perp came in, pulled a gun, and demanded money. The CCer quickly drew, and got him on the floor.

Turns out, the kid had a toy gun. Now, had that been my bank when I was present, he may have turned the other way, or waited until I left. Probably would have left altogether. A kid with a toy gun is no match for a cop and myself. Maybe they would account for the officer being there, but now they see me, and it throws a wrench in the works.

I see various possible outcomes in that one. If I CC, they may attack with me in there, and I can help the officer deal with the threats. If I OC (Which I do), they may wait until I leave, thus leaving the officer without any backup.

There are pros and cons to both. For me, OC is far better.

    Oooh, and another one;

    It pisses off liberals.

You have the right to refuse to patronize any business for any reason. The only way to get change from a business is to vote with your dollars.

Your employer has the right to fire you for any reason. Not quite the some thing. Especially with unemployment as high as it is.

We do our employers bidding for them to pay us. If our employer wanted us to OC as part of our job, then the analogy would be the same.

I agree with the above part of your post 100%. However, I don't know which percent falls into what category, and many fall into both IMO. I've only seen 2 OC-ers outside of the range or a hunting/woods area so I have no way to judge. People do things for all sorts of reasons. I, nor anyone else, can look into their mind to truly understand why. Everyone tries to project what we may think the reasons may be...makes sense because that's the way that WE think...not the way other people think.

Despite what we may think hanging around here, OC-ers are a VERY small minority of those carrying a firearm for SD. The larger group, being made up of many emotional ninnies, tends to pounce on them every chance they get...and defend their pouncing with emotional and easily disproven rants.

Personally, I'm proud that people have the balls to OC...and I don't care what their reasons are as long as they are good representatives for all gun owners. They are paving the way to de-sensitize people people to thinking that guns are only used for evil. Many people only see firearms on the news and in movies where people are being murdered. They have no idea how many times firearms are used for SD in this country.

So hats off from me to the OC crowd. I have not ventured there. But I'm proud that others have. :yesway:

I didn't read through the thread to much, but OC is just not really for me.
I don't have an issue with it, but..
1.OC mabey more physically comfortable, but I feel more comfortable with it concealed.

2.I do not believe that OC works as a crime deterant, IMO it could make you a target.

    3. I am no undercover cop either...(?) however I do want it to be a surprise if it comes to that.

4.I don't want people asking me questions, that's what the internet is for.

    5. I don't care what the sheeple think, as long as they leave me alone I am good.

    6. I got all the freinds I need.

    7&8 . I don't carry a gun to look cool.

    9. As long as they don't wand me at the door or something I feel fine knowing I am legal. Opinions weather it be a persons or a buisness are irrelevant to me.

Actually, indyjoe, you made it not quite the same thing, not me. I am looking at it from a personal choice perspective. YOU have the right to patrionize and YOU also have the right to seek employment whereever you desire and IF OC is that important, THEN you will find employment that allows it.
