Depends on which version of the movie you are watching. Here is the original from 1977.

I remember the original and of Han shooting first. It was stupid that they edit it so that it looked like he had to shoot second.

Here is another example of Han shooting first. Sees Darth Vadar, doesn't wonder why, doesn't stop to ask or think about whats happening? Nope, Han starts shooting, right away. Han shoots first

Thats because Han new Vader was going to alter the deal. It was Lando who was caught off guard, then had to pray Vader didn't alter it any further.

He was being held at gunpoint by a hostile opponent, who likely would have shot him anyway - if he were given the chance. Han did the right thing, at the right moment - how is that NOT respectable? :dunno:

In movies, especially nowadays, the hero always has to go easy on the bad guy. Everyone always yells, "he's not worth it!" Then the badguy somehow gets a weapon, and tje hero is FORCED to kill him.
    That's Hollywood.
    Its not life.

The added scene in the re-released version totally changes the dynamic of the han solo character, he goes from a smuggling, murdering in cold blood outlaw in the original version...to just a self defense shooting.
