I released the mink?? this morning. here are a couple pics I took when it made its get away. they did not turn out the best. it was my first time taking pics in the snow. and some i just tryed to get close ups so you guys could get a good look at it.
I had a animal that looked just like this fall into one of the window wells on the side of our house. it was black in color and neighbors told me it was a mink. I never knew they could be white in color aswell.
Yup, mink, like I said in the other thread, look at the length of the neck. Google a pic of a ferrett, and compare the neck, and it will be obvious how much longer the mink's is. As for color, it isn't white, but IMO it is a very pretty champaign color, with what looks like normal black/dark brown guard hair.
ermine is a white stoat, smaller than a mink but same family ...
Mink get a white winter coat.. it is worth more on the fur market.. trapping season is often in winter.. Indiana trapping season for mink goes till Jan 31.
Mink don't get a white winter coat, the smaller weasels can though (ermine).
Back when I trapped the blacker the mink the more $.
Same with skunks (also a member of the weasel family).
There were some mink farms way back, and some escapes, so folks could catch other color phases that had gone wild (or had offspring carrying the trait).
