I doubt I'll see anyone wanting to take the weapon out of the shoulder and off its target to have to reload in the middle of a fire fight....hence, enter the AR design
When we have gone out to military bases and trained deploying soldiers, at their officer's request, it was not to teach them close quarters fighting.
It was to teach them how to kill that SOB at 600 yards taking pot shots with an enfield. As it turns out, what we teach improved their marksmanship at every level, even for CQB ranges. But what we are teaching is marksmanship that is under time constraint and using stock gear and ammo. Think of it as similar to Designated Marksmanship skills.
It works. Come and try.
Oh, and the soldiers were universally appreciative of what they had learned and left with a confidence in distance shooting that they did not have before.
