Too many would be when you have to start looking for another home with room for the other safes to keep them secured. :): What kind would include "all kinds".:rockwoot: Unfortunately, I'm not there yet. :(

    But maybe one day....

    1. 9mm pistol (or .357mag if not familiar with semi-auto pistols)
    2. AK or AR
    3. 12 ga pump shotgun (Rem 870 1st choice, Mossberg 500 2nd)

Bonus choice for #4 would be a .22 cal rifle (Ruger 10/22 1st choice)

Like others have said, It all depends on the person. Single with good job, Single and struggling,Married and established, married with a house full of kids..,.. The list is endless, but at the end of the day if it fits into your budget without issue, have as many as you would like!

There is no such thing as to many, I want them ALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
I don't want them all. just one of each. ;)

If you are not paying your bills, but are buying guns, those are "too many". If you are not (monetarily) taking care of your family and/or your obligations, those are too many. Otherwise, there's no such thing as "too many".

Three is too restrictive. I think there are a minimum of 5 main areas for me when it comes to needs. (In no particular order.)

    1. Carry gun
    2. HD
    3. Hunting/Survival
    4. SHTF
    5. Truck gun/bug

If I absolutely, positively had to pick only 3...

    1. Ruger 10/22
    2. Smith & Wesson 686 w/ 4 inch barrel
    3. Remington 870

Classic choices, but you can scratch a lot of itches with those 3.

If my buddy asked me and didn't have any guns I would suggest:

1: Carry Handgun in a proper defensive caliber
    2: 16-20"AR
    3: 10/22

(then if he wanted to flesh it out just a little)
    4: 12 gauge 870

If I was trying to be sneaky and seduce someone into getting a proper set of guns I would suggest

1: Carry Handgun in a proper defensive caliber
    2: 10/22
let's just see how things go from there (aka, let's go shoot 10/22's for a couple of days and then we can get an AR out and see if you like them too)

If someone is ever worried about having too many guns, they don't like guns enough.

There's a lot of different people in shooting sports. Some people only see guns as a tool, something for self protection and nothing more so often 1 or 2 is plenty. You have hunters who have to have deer guns, turkey guns, varmint, etc. You have shooters who compete and use guns for sport or for fun. Collectors, etc. A lot of people cross into more than 1 group.

So.....in some cases, there is never enough, and in other cases, 1 is too many

    My critical 3 (i.e. the first 3 I purchased):

    1) .22LR pistol or rifle (for me, it's my Ruger MkII)

    2) EDC pistol (Colt 1991A1 Commander, IIRC)

    3) 200+ yd rifle (I started w/ a .308 Savage 110) or shotgun

Of course, others have come (and gone) since then but if I had to start again I wouldn't change much. After 20yrs the Savage needs another barrel (it's third) & I a put a Pac-Lite on my MkII. The Colt was junk, though, and didn't last 2 years before being replaced.

    What he said!
If there's 3 guns that I would suggest it would be
A center fire pistol carry piece
    An ar with .22 conversion
    And a pump shotgun
You can do pretty much everything with that set up there. Actually just the pistol and the shot gun could pretty much do it all since shotguns are so versatile.

    On point.

2 carry pistols. I prefer .45 ACP but this is up to you.
1 shotgun 12 gauge pump or auto loader
1 rim fire rifle in caliber of your choice.
    1-Center fire battle rifle. .223/308
1-center fire bolt gun with good optic

Any thing else is extra and up to you.

Having come to guns due to a hunting background, I would always have a shotgun. A Remington 870 was my first gun and would be the last I would get rid of. I guess the second must have, would be the M1A. That would be the main battle rifle. The third, I guess if I had to pick one carry gun only... Dang that's tough.... Okay the 1911 commander sized. Fourth would be the S&W 15-22. Fifth would be the M4 clone... I still need my Buckmark though.... Oh and the... And also....

I agree that it depends on your circumstances. If you could only have one firearm, to me, it would be a 12 gauge. They cover more bases than any other single gun. If you can affort two, the next would be a carry/hd handgun. If you can afford three then I would suggest a centerfire rifle. It goes on from there. Some types of guns are versatile and although they might be better suited to one use they can be used to achieve different things. As your personal situation improves then you can go to specializing with specific guns for specific needs. A carry sized handgun can be used for all of your handgun needs but, if you have the cash, having a specific handgun which is especially well suited for carry and one for HD is great. As your ability grows you may want to go to a smaller carry gun and a larger HD gun. The bottom line is the list changes as your situation changes and you can afford to have specific guns for specific tasks. The less money you have the more versatile your guns need to be.
