Kimber Custom Stainless in 9mm. P226 in 9mm and OD or DE. AR if they would allow it. (If I could only choose 1)

If they allowed the $1000 as just a value for any gun/guns, then a couple Glocks.

A Glock and $400 of ammo.
I wouldnt get anything in .380, the 9mm is such a better round (easier to find, less expensive, more powerful) and you can find compact guns in 9mm just as small as the .380 guns.
So why bother with that caliber?

Easiest decision I would ever have to make; Colt 1911 Combat Elite (and I can get it under $1,000). So +1 to whoever already mentioned this (in this thread).

I also saw someone with a Kimber in 9mm, but I do not think I can get that new under $1,000. If I could, I would still take the Colt first (probably ending up a safe Queen) and then the Kimber second (and shoot the heck out of it).

I'd get whatever fits your hand perfectly and points easily...

    Then go from there.

Well I have plans for lots of guns... but I would have to say a Kimber, or springfield. Or maybe a Benelli Super Black Eagle..... or maybe a nice over/under.... the list could go on, trust me

I'd probably get a FN 5.7. It's not something I would want to spend my own money on. Desert Eagle would be up there too. I would just want to get something that I wouldn't purchase on my own. Add some spice to my safe.
