Oh, look, the socialist militia has brand new Russian AK-103s. I wonder where those came from? Maybe Russia?

The militia or the AKs? I'd say the likelihood is that both came from Russia. Weren't Russian troops fighting out of uniform acting as locals in Ukraine? Seems to be Russia's MO.

Take all of the below with a grain of salt. Interesting nonetheless.

BREAKING: US Navy deploys two aircraft carriers, both southbound, one from each coast, amid Venezuela crisis.

Park several acres of US firepower off each coast in international waters. That's on page 1 of the checklist.

USAF ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) assets have long legs and fly out of Nebraska and California. When A-10s with DM on the tails start showing up in Panama or Columbia? It's getting real serious. I guess we'll find out if the US Southern Command can perform missions other than anti-drug.

Meh, pre-positioning of assets is a thing. Just having them on the way/in the area puts more pressure on Maduro. And the Russians aren't going to do anything. They can hardly move stuff around in their own backyard; they aren't going to be able to project force half a world away in a Latin country.

MSNBC: The People In Venezuela Have No Guns, And So Therefore No Power

MSNBC reporter Kerry Sanders unwittingly made the American case for the Second Amendment during a report Tuesday on the political upheaval in Venezuela.

Anchor Andrea Mitchell introduced Sanders for his report by commenting on the surprising ability of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro to stay in power, despite the pressure on him to step down.

“Not only hanging on but he appears to still control the military,” Sanders said. “You have to understand, in Venezuela gun ownership is not something that’s open to everybody. So if the military have the guns, they have the power and as long as Nicolás Maduro controls the military, he controls the country.”

Throughout history oppressive regimes have used secret police to keep the population oppressed. This is pretty huge. Also it raises concerns that this guy will try to be in charge when the dust settles.

Ceausescu's Securitate turned on him in his last days. Maduro should not be resting easy...

NBC News reporting that Maduro is now surrounded by "Cuban troops" because he no longer has trust in his own military

Maduro is playing Tropico while the rest of the world is playing Civilization.

    Could be anywhere
There are 25k Cubans there to prop up his peoples paradise. One of the reasons the military is staying in barracks is that he doesn't trust which way they'd be pointing their weapons. The bus driver would be worth the judicious use of a PGM.

Was sitting at BWs the other day having lunch when that Armored car rammed the protestors. I shook my head. Watched them pick up rocks and bricks and thought 'there's your gun control'...
