Is it worth it, in terms of business 101 or because they know they have a free insurance policy of government bailouts and concessions if it blows up?
I don't know if they factored in, but I kinda doubt it. This contract is not going to put the big three under, if that's what you're worried about. I think caving on some of those issues was a mistake, but it's their show.

I believe that the big three are so far up the government’s butt that they make decisions believing they have a government safety net.

For example the investments into EV’s that are reportedly being thrown away are certainly not the moves those without a safety net make to me...

Well, THIS government is not gonna play ball with them so eagerly since all the traditional manufacturers are ****ting on EV's.

But that disproves everything the socialists/communists say. According to the socialist/communist leader of the UAW what Toyota just did is an impossibility.
No. The claim is the only reason Toyota pays what they do is because of the Unions at the other companies. In this specific case, they are correct. Toyota gave that raise because of the raise the Union Employees got.

...Even in strong economy pensions may be gone for good
The United Auto Workers had an overarching goal last summer as it headed into negotiations with Detroit’s Big Three: claw back as many concessions as possible from the Great Recession, then keep pushing for an even better deal.

In many ways it succeeded, with retirement being a notable exception. While the union won big improvements for savings plans, its long-shot endeavor to bring back pensions for younger members went nowhere...

Kokomo plants are getting ready for big lay offs. This time of year, combined with model changes is the main reason.

Teamsters didn’t strike UPS. They settled last minute. But UPS lost costomers to FedEx because they were afraid going with UPS when the threat of strike happened.

Union won big time on that deal. Better than UAW. Teamsters didn’t have to strike. To pay for what the union won they’re ****ing the non-union workers. I am glad the drivers won air conditioning in their Trucks tho.

Elon Musk, who hates unions, has to deal with a rare strike at Tesla after his Swedish workers walked out

...Tesla is facing growing strike action in Sweden over its refusal to accept a collective labor agreement.

Last week, the Swedish trade union IF Metall announced a walkout, saying that after having no success "over a long period of time" in negotiating a collective agreement with Tesla, it was left with no other option.

In a statement on its website, the union said it wanted "our members at Tesla to have the same decent and safe working conditions as the members at other similar companies in Sweden."

Around 90% of Sweden's employees are covered by collective agreements, The New York Times reported. The agreements allow labor conditions and wages to be negotiated between unions and companies...

Yeah, that ain't the winner you think it is. Only NEW trucks will have A/C; no vehicles currently in service will be retrofitted.
It was sarcasm. Teamsters got a lot in this contract, which the salaried people are getting ****ed to pay for it, but, the AC deal is pretty weak. UPS isn't big on updating equipment. They'll do the bare minimum to keep every piece of **** in service. But hey. As part of the AC deal current the current fleet of delivery vehicles will get updated with fans.
