And then when we have a democratic president he/she will declare a public health emergency and create universal health care. Careful what you wish for. We have checks and balances built into the system for a reason. We don't want Presidents of either party declaring fake emergencies to get what they can't get through constitutional processes.

This is a false dilemma

When has conservative reluctance to do so ever prevented progressive government overreach? Who weakened the filibuster first and for what 'noble' purpose? The idea is out of the box, the Democrats will do it whether Trump does or not

If Trump declares a national emergency to bypass Congress to build a wall, the next president (no matter which party) will do the same thing for anything.

We need separation of powers. We certainly don't need an emperor.

Just when did we get this whole process backwards? Did we really use our ability to vote to make ourselves servants? Aren't they supposed to represent us rather than they demanding we conform to their desires?

The larger government gets the less freedom and liberty we will have. Period.

Now we just need to find a whole race of people to vote into a position of power that have the sole intent of divesting themselves of all privilege and power...

Since securing the border is an aspect of national defense, I think POTUS can use the military to do the job without setting precedents for imperial domestic policies. If congress chooses to defund the military, that's another matter

If Trump uses this power to fund the border wall I hope the courts ***** slaps him back into 2015. The president doesn't get to just decree his whims into law when congress doesn't go along. The thing that prevents Trump from having his way unfettered, also protects us from an out of control unhinged Kamala Harris or other bat **** crazy Democrat's whims.
