Greater Indianapolis for Change is an organization emerging out of the grassroots volunteer efforts to elect Barack Obama President of the United States of America. My reply to their letter after seeing 5 people respond to saying I'm in, or I'll help....

To all: If you wish to get involved in your community, go to town hall meetings, vote, support your local Boy/Girl Scout Troop as they do more for your community with more support, join the military, volunteer at your local food bank, homeless shelter, church, get involved with the local community programs in place. If you can't find one, THEN start one. Don't depend on our elected officals to take care of you. If you do this Country will become a bigger Nanny State.

Be self-sufficent. Love thy neighbor. Do for self and help others who can't. If you want to make a change, by the People, for the People.

Hi, my name is Keith Clock. I'm a Regional Organizer with the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

President-Elect Obama's Inaugural Committee is planning a National Day of Service for January 19, which is Martin Luther King Day and the day before the inauguration. President-Elect Obama is encouraging all of us to come together and commit to service in our community. The National Day of Service is an opportunity for our volunteers to strengthen relationships built during the campaign, build new relationships, and take action together.

The service events can engage people in direct service through community organizations or through local community improvement projects. By organizing a service event, you are simply working with a group of volunteers who you have recruited to give back to your community is some way. This can be done by assisting a local community organization or charity, or by working on a school landscaping project, painting a local community center, or visiting and reading to nursing home residents. It's all up to you and your group to decide how you want to give back to your local community.

If you are interested in hosting a service event, email me and I will email you more information on the Day of Service as well as including a link to a webform where you can submit your service event once you have the details worked out. If are unable to host an event, but are able to help us contact other volunteers, please email me.

I just wanted to share.

My response was to have people do this on their own, not form another useless coalition to get involved with these very groups who don't need and may not want someone telling them what to do how to do it or who will do it.

I figured as much. I think it's great to get involved with the community and to help others, but how is what he's doing going to be any different than telling people to go out to these places on their own and help others? Is there going to be money involved? An organizational structure? a coalition made from these different groups? I don't see it being any more effective than asking people to do this on their own time and free will.

While on the surface SE and the BO email appear the same the similaries end there. SE's proposal focuses on the individuals working together for a common goal. For example his reference to the Boy Souts teaches young men and boys the values of living off of nature, community serves at a church brings neighborhoods together and creates a sence of family. These which is citiess and the suburbs have long been forgotten.

Yet is this not what BO's new group is trying to do? One the surface perhaps even on a national level but it's backing is a government entity while may not be a bad thing to do the level of resources the government can bring but it is a bad thing since it's the government. 50% of american's have been raised in thinking that it's the governmnet job to cloth, feed, shelther them. Most of them are 2nd or 4th generation "government hand-out" babies. That do not believe in working or self sustaining themseleves. The fear that many here and elsewhere on the net have is that this BO group is mainly composied of all these "government entitled" like people who will expect that Daddy BO give them everything.

This BO group could be looked at as the pre-cursors of the BO national security guard (aka German Nazi Brown Shirts). If you are a person hungry for power you don't just instill yourself as SUPREME RULER. You slowly work on that. First start with a community organizational group in the name of helping the communities. The people buy that then move to a security type orginazation made by the people in the made of protecting the people, the people buy that, next move to dismantle certain freedoms in the name of national secuirty after some attack, the peopel buy that, then change the laws in the name of unity, the people buy that and before you know it say hello to Supreme Empreror BO.

Go see Star Wars 1 - 3 and see how the Emperor did it. Yes that is a work of fiction but the storyline (moral of the story) is based on real life. Every dictator knows that the way to power is one slow step at a time.

It is your job, SE, mine, and everyone else on this board and in America to ensure that our government does not et out of hand and if they do then we must remind them that they work for us and we can toss them all out and start anew.

If you (the reader) are not willing to keep tabs on them (government) that you (the reader) are not a american plain & simple.

The e-mail was not from a government entity. It was from a 'grass-roots' organization in Indianapolis that affiliated themselves with Obama.

The Boy Scouts & churches are not individuals. They are organizations. Every charitable organization is a group of individuals working to try to better their little piece of the world.

This e-mail was no different from Bush getting on TV & asking you to support your local charities. Or from Laura asking you to help a child to read or other public service message from any other political figure or celebrity.

On second thought I think it was different. It wasn't sent out at the direction of Obama. It was sent out locally by people who want to help their community. They aren't getting money from the government or they wouldn't be asking for donations to help cover expenses.

In regard to the whole tinfoil hat "Obama Brown Shirts" thing:

You need to watch the whole thing especially around 16:00 to see that he was talking about the organizations like the peace corp. & other community service organizations.

finity, no, these emails were initiated by a freelance organization, but under the direction of Obama and his posse. Research it. As far as individuals, what churches do are started by them. THey are group involved, but usually one or two people start the whole thing.

I will agree that every charitable organization is a group of people though!

And as far as Obama talking about the peace corps, that's not what he's out to do. He's out to create government organizations, such as the Civilian Security Force, and the IDK what he calls it, but people who are like the Army Corps of Engineers who do that job but are civilians. He's wanting what he won't call socialist programs, but that's what they are.

And if he successfully helps push the repeal of the 22nd amendment, things might just come full circle to you.

How do you 'know' that what he 'really' wants to do is not what he actually said?

Can you show me anywhere, at any time, in his own words, not from some accusation by some right-wing hack, that he said he wants to create a 'civilian security force' ala the Nazi Brown Shirts, except in the same context as the video above where the out-of-context sound bite was taken from?

I'll even go so far as to say show me anything from any one of his advisors that he should have known about making any similar statements.

If you can do that then I will gladly change my position on the matter & apologize. Until then you are being dishonest by knowingly spreading rumors that are on their face known to be false for political purposes.

Also if you think that Obama will be able to force a Constitional Amendment through that will repeal the 22nd then you need to study the amendment process a little more closely. It takes a 2/3 majority of both houses of Congress to even be passed to the states for ratification. It then takes the legislatures of 3/4's of all the states to actually enact it. The Founders made it hard to Amend the Constitution for good reason. Thats why it has only been done 17 times since 1791. If it has that much support (which I highly doubt it does) then so be it. It is the system we live under. You still have the right to lobby against it.
