The problem with supply and demand in this situation is that we have government influenced demand and government influenced supply.

The demand is high because of fear of a ban (duh), but the arms manufacturers have to try to straddle a line here. They need to ramp up production to try to keep up with demand, but at the same time they have to factor in the possibility of a ban that same as the rest of us. That means they won't produce enough to gain an inventory, and they won't increase their capacity significantly only to be stuck with a glut of product they can't legally sell and have any investment they have made wasted due to government imposed suppression of demand.

In a free market increased prices due to any increased demand would be far less severe and shorter lived as the manufacturers would be free to respond how they see fit without fear of being screwed by the government.

But we don't have free markets in America so whatever…

The majority don't want a free market. We have members here that want to tattle on sellers for profiteering without an ffl. So apparently they're ok with government interference in ffl requirements.

By mid summer all these buyers are going to be kicking themselves in the rear for dumping that money.

The majority doesn't understand the theory of rights or basic economics. They expect the government to control people and when the government manipulates the markets and makes things worse (and worse, and worse, and worse), business and "free" markets get the blame.

The Republicans just make things worse by supporting market controls implicitly while supporting "free" markets explicitly.
