What about smaller shotgun shells? You can have a nice Russian doll effect.

Put a 20 gauge shell in backwards. Empty it out and fill it with black powder and make an exploding shell so it will go off when the primer hits something.

We always called 'em "ring" slugs because we were ringing them with a knife.

I've shot at least hundreds of those. We always tried to get it about halfway up the wad so it would stick in to both ends and hold it together while you put it in the gun.

When I was a kid I would put lightning bugs in the bore of my air rifle and blast them out. It would be kind of a glow spray.

Might work in a shotgun.
