What do you guys think would happen if:
Cruz and Kasich cut a deal, with Kasich as VP. Cruz wins Ohio's delegates, Cruz wins the western states and most of the states as far east as Indiana, but Trump wins Illinois, FL, NY, and CA?

Cruz/Kasich could be a winning ticket nationally. Principled conservative leadership backed up by a pragmatist that appeals to the centrists. I'm thinking of it as a Reagan/Bush type of appeal.

I don't think anyone can answer that. This is the most screwed up election I have ever seen. I thought Rand was going to do better than he did. I didn't think Cruz would do as well as he has. I thought Jeb would do much better than he did. I thought Trump at the very beginning was just blustering to get his name in the newspapers. I never thought an admitted socialist would get hardly any votes at all as when I was raised, calling someone a pinko was an insult.

    Almost certainly a brokered convention.

If Trump hasn't named a veep by that point, that will be a problem. As if we need more through-the-looking-glass feel to this cycle, his running mate might make a material difference in the election.

My crystal ball says that the Reagan/Bush social coalition no longer exists.

I gotta say, I fully agree with each of your points. I was only looking for people to spitball what might be the outcome.

Brokered convention is what I figured...most likely that is not a good thing because it will probably turn into a bloodbath. Whoever gets the nomination will probably be so damaged that they can't win the general election.

That's unfortunate about the coalition, it seemed to work well for the nation when a conservative was at the helm. I didn't know whether someone could put it back together this late in the game or not...especially since that would seem to be a necessity for winning the general at this point. I've also wondered about a Cruz/Fiorina ticket, but I think he needs Kasich in order to deliver Ohio (both in the primary and the general) and help out in the other purple states.

I'm not usually one to give any weight to celebrity endorsements, but :chuck: just endorsed Ted Cruz. I think of :chuck: as being considerably more informed and intelligent than most in Hollywood. Plus, he's solidly pro-gun and it's not his first rodeo in the political arena.

Well that should pretty well settle it. ;)

On the brokered convention. I get the impression from Kasich that he thinks the party is going to give him the nomination if he wins Ohio and keeps the Trump from reaching the necessary delegates to win on the first ballot. His comments and attitude otherwise make no sense. I wonder if he has gotten assurances from someone? If the party goes down this path, I think they are continuing to underestimate the anger in the base directed toward the party bosses. I believe they will permanently lose more voters than they ever get from their amnesty scheme.

Yeah, Chuck Norris. The guy I look to when I have metaphysical questions. Right after I see if Sarah has any deep insight.

And you wonder why the party is in the tank.....

I agree with your assessment and I do NOT like Kasich one bit, you can definitely consider me as part of the angry base. I was simply spitballing from a pragmatic perspective of how Cruz might be able to win outright and avoid a brokered convention - longshot though it is. As you noted upthread, this is the most screwed up election I have ever seen - it reminds me of the ancient Chinese curse/proverb "May you live to see interesting times."

They don't deserve to win the election if they're going to be so petty as to try to stop the American voters from having their choice of candidates. If they think the public is voting with their middle finger now, they're really not going to like what the public will be voting with next, it's called a couch.

If the establishment wants to sink Trump a fool proof way is they could endorse him.
I think we may soon reach the point where the establishment needs to give it up, make nice with him and stop destroying their candidate. We should know in the next week or two if there is any stopping him.

With talk of establishment types openly saying they would back hitlary if Trump got the nomination I'm not sure they would.
Speaks volumes to me if they would even consider that instead of not voting.

It actually makes perfect sense if you think of it as the establishment/uniparty (D+R) vs. the rest of us.
