Build it could be stretched out as well. It is up to you. PSA has some nice kits but they take several weeks to ship. The layaway thing is common enough. My LGS does it as well.

and we're back to the $0 in the budget problem. Build it/buy it is out, find it under a sunken boat is my best option at the moment.

Im a buy it kind of guy. Right or wrong, I justify what I spend on guns as investment. A Colt or Noveske will always bring more money than a Stag or delton. We are in different places in our lives. I think of what my kids can sell my toys for when I'm dead. You need something that goes bang everytime. We can build that. There's nothing wrong with building. It just doesn't have the resale of a factory gun.
You can still put a lower in layaway and build what you want. Trying to help, not cloud it up more.

I appreciate the advice. I had no idea what I bought when I got my first (and only, so far) 1911, guy had a gun that looked cool, I had cash in hand and just bought it...pretty sure I overpaid for what it is. Don't want to do the same thing with my first AR
