Oooops. Thought a conference call was gonna start at 12:30. I'm the only one there. Love it when things get changed and nobody lets the outside people know.

A whole $5 ! How did she end up with a lot in Montana?

Been in her family since the 1920's. We visited it for the first time about a year ago and talked to the rancher that has the surrounding property. It is currently at the edge of a hayfield. Her great grandmother bought it and never built there. The town became abandoned and everyone else quit paying the taxes. Her lots is all that remains of the old town.
It's in a huge county that only has 492 residents. That's for the entire county.

At one time, there were two towns in the county during the oil booms of the 1920's. The railroad went to the other town, so this one died off over about 30 years. The rancher says there are still some foundations left from old buildings, but the buildings came down in the 40's and 50's. Like I said, the old town is a hay field now.

That must have been an interesting visit. Do you have any plans for the lot?

Keep it and pass it down to the wife's daughter. It is in the middle of Montana, 14 miles from the nearest town. That is the tiny county seat, one bar, one restaurant, one grocery and a Post office. It's about 4 hours north of Billings.

When we retire in 15 years or so, we hope to buy an RV. Might just set up there for a couple of weeks over the summer. It's right next to the road, so we have access.

We got lucky. Most property like this in Montana is cut off from roads and according to Montana law, the surrounding landowner does not have to give you access. Her lot is right next to a gravel road, so that's not an issue.
