yes, he walked right past them as he came up the porch steps.. and they are also on the mailbox by the gate he just walked in.

for that very reason I watched him go next door and waited to see their reaction. I have good neighbors living there now.

My grandpa served in WWI. no relatives in WWII.

Did he make it back home?

I visited a cemetery in the US (in Indiana) and it was really neat to see some soldier's tomb (I dont remember how I noticed they were soldiers) and see by their date of death that they made it back home.
On the tombs around here they sadly all have the same year of death.

I did that before too when I was showing my niece how to shoot.
