Depends.They have all kinds of cars, usually not meant to go fast unless they are highway cops with racing cars.

The Gendarmerie uses Subarus or Renault Meganes on the highway.

Yeah that's the police.They have many models too, including vans and whatnot.

They are not meant to arrest people, just to catch you to give you a ticket, then they call a van to bring you back to the station.

They do the same thing in indy. They call a can to haul people to lockup.

They mainly use helicopters to find people driving too fast on the highway then they send guys on bikes to stop them and finally the van to arrest them.

Even if you go faster than the bike you have no chance with the helicopter and they can even follow you home without you noticing it.
