Wife just called and said 1/3 of our big tree in the front yard is split and laying in my neighbor's yard. She said it looks like it was struck by lightning. :n00b: It was probably just wind.

Now I'm pissed because that tree covered the entire front yard and gave lots of shade. If I lose it entirely the house is gonna feel awfully "exposed". :xmad:

They make Hybrid trees you can buy that grow like 6 - 8 ft a year. Be a quick way to get shade in a few years. I'm not sure how big you can buy them to start with though.

That stinks, it's really windy here too. Hope we don't lose power.

:nono: you don't want that weed in your yard. Get a real tree, yes it takes a while to grown to a height that will give you shade, but those hybrids won't give you shade and will die within 10 years. Then you have an unsightly mess.

I would plant both. Then cut down the hybrid after the real tree got bigger

Wow, a huge tree just fell over down the street. Blocking the highway that runs in front of my house.

Don't know how we still have power, it had to have taken some lines down.:dunno:

Or plant them side-by-side so they fuse together and form a hybrid-hybrid tree!

    :D
The old owner of my high school house was a researcher for Lilly. When we moved in he had all kinds of threes that he had spliced about 5 feet off the ground. It seemed to work for him! :D

ETA: I'm pretty sure it's still just a hybrid tree.
