    so there is the french "prime minister" and a French president. or are they the same person just two titles. Or am I completely confused. I have almost know knowledge of french politics.

    They are two different persons.
    The prime minister is the head of the government, the president is the head of state.The prime minister is selected by the elected president.

    It's very different than how it works in the US.The prime minister is not like a vice president, he doesn't become president in case the president dies in office.

    But it's clear as mud for us too. :rolleyes:
    The president and the PM have the power to do the same kind of things but during the last 5 years our president did so much things by himself that the PM didn't have much to do.

    I can see some similarities with our original Constitutional Government. Not the PM & President thing, but the people elect one house and the local government appoints the other house, a Constitutional overseer (like SCOTUS).
