    It's called a CV (constant velocity) joint! and that is what it sounds like to me!! :D

    I had a bronco with one that went bad. Its a crazy little guy. My U-Joints were fine, but the CV joint where the one end went in the other had some missing pins and it was all out of whack. It sounded about like he described.

    Yup!! that would be my first guess and what I would look at first! :D
