The name "RelicHound" is making sense now:D

    same here:laugh:

I've been doing since I was a kid{9-10 yrs old} I didnt get real serious about it until about 1999-2000. as far what I've found monetarily speaking...I'd rather not say on the interwebz.

there for awhile I was hunting 6 days a week 3-6 hours per day in the spring, fall and summer. in the past year or two I havent been doing much at all...I went 3-4 times last year. I plan on hitting it hard again this spring before the farmers get the fields planted.

What is a good starter detector??

I get that question all the time..and there really isnt an answer for it. the best you can afford? thats probably the best answer. alot of people buy the cheapest machine they can find...take it out and get frustrated and give it up. The best machine I can think of of the top of my head for someone who thinks its a hobby they will stick with is the Whites XLT spectrum. its higher end machine but its full programable and has pre-set programs for new users..its easy to use and grows with you. you can fid them used for $450+ and new for around $800.
if your budget wont allow that then there is the Garrett Ace series which runs about $200 or the Fisher F2 which is about the same. stay away from wal-mart/radio shack machines..they are junk. I also dont recommend bounty hunter machines...they are frustrating as hell and cheaply made.

I had a $200 Whites about 6 years ago. I never really even tried it out and I sold it when I moved and got rid of a bunch of things that didn't fit in my apartment. I should've kept it:ugh:

Sure it was a Whites? I dont think Whites has ever made anything that cost less than $500{in the last 20 years or so}...they are money hungry bastards.:):

It was a lot like this one except it was all black and the bottom was a solid disc.
