How would you rate his blow on a scale of 1-10?

Varies widely depending on which route you go. I bought a supposedly better one from Aqua Systems that was somewhere around $1,000 installed. I have bought the cheaper hardware store/Sam's Club varieties before for around $300-400 but those have had a short life cycle for me in the past.

We will be going the $400ish route.

Considered going without (we never had them before), but the dishwasher is already showing scale and everything is soap scummy.

No!! The ice maker is working so there is water coming into the unit. My hope is the "installer" didn't get everything properly hooked up.

After yesterday I am never ever running an auger again.

you just need to run one attached to the back of a tractor. Those handheld units beat on you pretty good after awhile.

Our water dispenser constantly freezes up. It's not usable unless I set a cup of boiling water on the tray and let it thaw out.
