The 9 year old lost her status of the one and only when the terrorists came along. They are just so darn cute they garner all the attention and it has had an effect on the 9 year old.
I try and set aside special time for her when I can.
Letting her pay for everything today (I am funding) should be a positive experience.

    I think it's awesome.

Or just make lots of French onion soup.

We tend to freeze the garden excess instead of canning. I'm too lazy for canning.

    Canning is some serious work.
That was one of the have to sow ups at the family farm when it was time to start the canning process from the huge garden they had.
It was sort of fun when I was a kid and more like work as I got older but I did love the food in the winter......:)

My grandma use to can a ton of stuff every year. It is definitely serious work. She stopped awhile ago as she has aged and can no longer do it. She is 90+.

I do miss that way of life to a point.
It was a serious part of my upbringing. When we went to the farm we worked. Then, if there was any time left we would hunt. Never just set up and shot. If you shot a round there had best be some meat from it.

My Dad & Stepmom still can tomato sauce and salsa...

Hope they keep it up for a number of years, that stuff is awesome...

I have a good friend that still cans. He offers up some tasty treats around Christmas.
His health is sliding south so not sure how much longer he will do this.

It was a much simpler life and you weren't being pulled in six different directions. There was always something that needed doing.

    Up at 0:dark30 every day.
    Work the live stock.
Come in and eat a hearty breakfast. These breakfasts have been a part of my life as long as I can remember. Huge 3 meats, gravy, taters, maters, you name it.
Back out until the bell rang for lunch or lunch was brought out to you in the field.
Then drag your dead ass tired body in for dinner.
    Rinse off and die.
Get up at 0:dark30 and repeat.
