If you want a durable, really bright light on the cheap, check out the surefire G2. It's less than 40 bucks and it will light up the next room over.
You can mount it with a cheap set of 1" scope rings and you have a pretty nice lamp for under $50.00.
I can't believe I haven't either...I'm still on the lookout though.
