Right now I just have too many people who think they are better qualified to run my life that I am.

You have my sympathies! Been there/done that.
I remember the exact situation in life when I was getting strong"advice" to go another direction in my life (again) and I said, "No."
I had already turned my life upside down by moving to Indy in 1985 (listening to advise from another), and they were advising me to go into business for myself and I'm so glad I didn't listen.
Then, a few years later, another person wanted me to move to Denver to help them start up a new business.
I sweat blood and tears over that opportunity, but said, "No" again.
Looking back on life (66 now), I realize that both opportunities were insane.
My friends that had gone into business, some having lots of money (one a millionaire) by anyone's standards, all didn't survive the economy's down times and they lost everything or nearly everything while I kept working at my low-paying teaching job.
Now, they envy me b/c I have a pension and can retire.
They lived large for a decade or two, but my temperament needs slow and steady gain, not richer, then poorer.
