New to .308 reloading, best bullet weight range?

Just ran out to the range for a few. There was a muzzle loader event out there earlier, so I couldn't test fire my 1917 until now.

That puppy makes a BOOM!!! It's weird, it seems like it is louder in this revolver than it is a 1911, and it's the same ammo.

Also, gonna have to get some smooth grips. The checkering on these grips would eat your hands up if you shot it much.
