Power adder technology has exploded too in that time. Now yo can take smaller cubic inches (relatively speaking) and make super big power fairly easy with your choice of nitrous, blower or turbos. There are guys with twin turbo motors with 400+cubes making mega power. Blower cars often go with a bit more cubes 540 is common and nitrous guy (like me use big cubes) @600 to nasty pro mod stuff in the 1000 cube area. Lots of different ways to get the job done. It just takes money. Lol

Personally, I have no use for anything more than about 425.

I can't imagine limiting myself to that.
We made 500+ in our old small blocks. With 358 cu.in, 9:1 compression and a little bitty 390 carb. It was mild mannered enough it coulda been driven on the street.

Yes and no. The really big pro mod nitrous stuff and twin turbos, yes
But amymore if you start from scratch it doesn't cost much more to build it big. It's common to build 588- 706 Cu in for @ $35k depending on what parts you use obviously makes a difference.

Not to mention you can pick up used engines for $20k. But yes you're right overall. Cubic $...problem with Cubic $ is it tends to push out the lower budget guys. That is part of why NHRA licensed drivers have an average age of 48yo. Hard to bring in new people when the cost is so high

At a stand still right now while I get caught up on some work. I was in Wisconsin last week and Pennsylvania this week.
