From the NWS forecast discussion from this morning...
AT THIS POINT...OPERATIONAL AND ENSEMBLE DATA ARE CLUSTERING AROUND STORM TOTALS IN THE 6 TO 10 INCH RANGE BY SUNDAY NIGHT...ALONG WITH
POTENTIAL FOR CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW SUNDAY NIGHT AS WELL AS TEMPERATURES DROPPING WELL BELOW ZERO. HEADLINES WILL LIKELY
BE NEEDED SOON TO COVER THE THREAT.

And they seem to be pretty certain on at least 4 inches worth.

Seems like the social media chatter by the Indy news stations is starting to pick up about the weather on Sunday. If you are on Facebook at all I recommend following this page.... https://www.facebook.com/bamchase

They are pretty much spot on and a couple days ahead of everyone else.

We call it a "French Toast alert", the term courtesy of Bob and Tom. Basically, the weather turns to crap and everyone suddenly wants to make French Toast, so they go buy... yep, milk, eggs, and bread.

Curious as to what you guys needed to get which you didn't already have on hand for winter? Might jog my memory of something I (or others) have forgotten...

Used that term on my boss this morning. She ain't from around these parts, and didn't get it. I had to explain, which ruined the joke and made me hungry.

I don't the reference, but it is going to get seriously nasty. 6+" of snow then -17F temps and -35F wind chills are the recipe for people dying in their cars in ditches. Pack blankets, cellphones, and other important things when traveling early next week. I work 7pm-3am Sunday night into Monday. Not looking forward to the drive home.

my wife is supposed to drive 45 mins (normal time) at 7am Monday through corn fields to work. I'm alreDy telling her to inform them she likely won't be there if lots of snow and -10F.

Me to. I leave the house at 6:30 or so and drive through fields that drift with snow pretty easily. If it really does get bad, I may just work from home. 6" is doable. A foot and I may be in trouble on that road with my car.

Definitely not looking forward to driving into work before 6am Monday if it's as bad as they say. It's only a 20 min drive normally, but I'll get to choose between drifting rural roads or traffic on 2 major highways. Oh goody. Good thing I got a 4x4.

Yeah, it looks like its going to be bad. Probably the coldest I have seen it in my 12 years of living in Indiana, and even before that I don't remember it getting this cold when I lived close to Detroit.

The only good thing I heard is that the snow is starting early on Sunday (late Saturday), so maybe that will help the roads a little for Monday. Regardless, I will be working from home that day. Just remember to have some water dripping out of your faucets so pipes don't freeze.

Got back a while ago from the Kroger in Whiteland. You would have thought the end was truly near. No carts, no bread, and people shopping like their lives were in danger. Hopefully I have everything I need to get through the weekend. Going to go make one more pass of salt on the driveway and the front walk. Then, come back inside and curl up with a book. And not leave for the rest of the weekend.

So far, we've brought extra wood into the house and started stacking it in the breakfast room. No need to go out for more wood for a couple of days with what we have ready to go. I pulled the battery out of the car and lawnmower out in the barn to keep them warm in the house. I changed the water pump and coolant on my son's car. It was leaking badly and he kept diluting the coolant more and more to keep going. It should be good to get him by now. Saturday's shopping trip was done early this week too. We're well stocked normally, but I've gots-ta have me my french toast when it's snowing, you know!

BTW, if you have not done so yet, make sure your hoses are disconnected and the crawlspace vents are closed. With this level of cold, you could get frozen pipes rather easily. Have you checked the coolant in your car recently? If your engine freezes up, it can get expensive. I like that this will mainly hit on Sunday. It will be a good day to sit by the fire and read a book until the bulk of it's done. Then, I'll freeze my backside off clearing driveways. In addition to my own, I have two single mothers and a widow that I usually clear the driveways for. It's going to be a cold night on Sunday.

We filled the wood shelter, ran the gennys under load, cycled the battery back up, topped off both refrigerators yesterday, filled all the tanks today. We did all this with a 15" warning being blared over thw radio and getting my wife and her family all riled. So 10 minutes ago I see 6"to 9"..........and then sub-artic temps. Still a tough one but it aint no 15". Kind of let down.

I heard 10" with some areas getting more. I guess I should watch the weather tonight. The wife said Walmart was crazy busy, so bad in fact that she wants to get up and get groceries at 6am!!! This is amazing because sleeping in for her is like 1pm?!?!

not looking forward to working saturday night. Working in La Porte and living out in the county makes it worse with the blowing/drifting snow. If it's as bad as they say it will I may end up just getting a hotel room that night after work since there are 2 right down the road from work for me.

The worst is having to leave and get to work despite all that chaos. If there's no power my wife is going to be ticked when I leave to come to work. Here's to hoping we have power when it's -17F!

Side note: if you had to choose an adhesive to hold a gas line in place at the bottom of a plastic gas tank on a generator, which type woudl you go with?
