No. I thought that too. But the act in 1833 applied to all the empire except territories owned by West Indies Company. I think if the revolution never happened it’s likely that an exception would have been added for the southern colonies too. Who knows when slavery would have ended.

Or, if not; perhaps the southern colonies would have taken the lead in the rebellion. The Constitution might have been a very different thing

That's hilarious on so many levels, not the least because they can "bravely" unmask due to the unstinting defense of RKBA by their "enemies"

If they ever achieved their little progressive/socialist utopia, they'd be among the first to be disarmed and sent to re-education camps

Nah. If they’ve worn through their usefulness, they’re executed. Doesn’t look to me like any Utopia would find a use for them.

Of course, there's no way to know for sure, but the 1833 Act came right of the heels of the Baptist Uprising (slave revolt) in Jamaica. You also have to keep in mind, that after the Revolution, there was blood in the water, and from henceforth, they were challenged regularly, as Monarchies fell across Europe. So there's a LOT of other things at work. The British, IMO, had no intention of giving up on slavery for moral purposes. They were intent on saving their empire and monarchy. I think they would have strung it along as long as they could've have, as long as it was not a threat to the overall empire.

Funny. I've seen some here pretty much parrot the quote on the top about Republicans

Also, a female game developer was dragged by the community recently for responding to constructive criticism with a ****ty attitude and playing the sexism card. She attacked the playerbase.

Now... her boss has fired her. Not one to root for firings, but this chick really went the wrong route when it came to responding to critics. Not only her, but another developer that took her side was also fired.

Funny enough, I had no idea who she was before all of this... but she had already blocked me on Twitter. This means she was using a blockbot... which really shows how fragile she was.

Guild Wars 2 Mike O'Brien responds to the incident

    Summary:

Yesterday a developer on the ArenaNet's narrative team, Jessica Price, made [this comment] when a Youtuber/Streamer (who is in the official ArenaNet partnerprogram) Deroir gave his take on the topic of player character design in Guild Wars 2 after Price was not pleased with comments in AMA posted earlier here.

Her reply can be taken as falsely claiming that Deroir only left this comment because she is a female developer. Deroir replied that it was not his intentions, but the discussion didn't care and rest you can view in her Twitter page.

Also during this "incident" another developer, also in the story side, Peter Fries replied to Price's comments saying that she was in the right, that it was indeed sexism. Both have now apparently been fired from their job.

    Original post from 'Deroir'
    "Really interesting thread to read!
However, allow me to disagree *slightly*. I dont believe the issue lies in the MMORPG genre itself (as your wording seemingly suggest). I believe the issue lies in the contraints of the Living Story's narrative design; (1 of 3)"

    Jessica's snobby reply:
"Today in being a female game dev:

'Allow me--a person who does not work with you--explain to you how you do your job.'"

Another reply Jessica had to someone else:
"Sure, dude. Now get out of my ****ing feed with your assumptions and your entitlement to my time."

Guild Wars 2 Lurches To Yet Another PR Nightmare

    Sounds like a good termination.

It really is a dumb argument... Can only firemen play firemen in movies? Can only actual cowboys play cowboys in movies?

    It's acting. Suck it up.

A good actor/actress should be able to play whatever role they're given.

Scarlett Johansson responds to backlash over her upcoming role as a transgender man

I laughed out loud when I first heard that. It’s hilarious. Maybe they should have tested intersectional theory a bit more in the laboratory to see how sane people might react to it as it plays itself out, before they rolled it out for general release.

Scarlett Johansson trying to portray a "transgendered man" is like me trying to portray an anorexic introvert with an aversion to sharp things.

I dunno. Have you seen her since she went all social justice-y?

Quite a far cry from her days of flowing locks and red bandage dresses.
