We are in a similar situation. My brother brings his boxer to see my Mother every few days, and she always asks his name, how long have they had him,etc.

My grandmother, in a home, used to greet everyone along the lines, "Bless you for coming to see me. I love you for that. Do I know you?"

Tough at first, but she was as happy as she could be. Loved all, made lots of peoples' days just from a pure heart.
