Last night I was watching Band of Brothers again. One of the GIs pulled a candy bar out of the buttstock, lol.

I wonder if Roman legionnaires had storage compartments in their sword handles... with pogie bait in them.

No doubt...though I wonder what their pogie bait would be.

I personally never really counted jerky as pogie bait (although that fit in stock as well) because it was basically healthy.

Me neither. But I assume it's meant to attract pogues. In military slang, pogues are non-combat types.
