As an actual tea-totaler, especially in the legal profession, I get asked some interesting questions:

1) Are you Mormon?

- No. See this Diet Coke? Also, would you like to talk about the finer points of the deity of Jesus Christ and substitutional atonement?

2) How long have you been sober?

- Since 1971. Do the math.

3) Have you ever drank alcohol?

- Yes. Probably a dozen times...and you'll love this, never beer and nothing distilled. Wine (including bubbly) only.

4) When was the last time?

- Best estimate, 12 to 15 years ago.

5) You know that Jesus turned water into wine, don't you?

- Absolutely, and I've taught on it a few times. As far as I can tell, real wine and really good wine. The reason I don't drink is not theological or a matter of church polity.

6) So your Dad (or Mom) was a mean alcoholic?

- Um.....no. Neither drink, or ever did. For them it may be somewhat theological, at least it was when I was young. They just don't drink.

7) Stop judging me! [technically not a question]

- I'm not. any discomfort you feel isn't being projected from me. I don't care if you drink. I've spent a considerable amount of time socializing with my friends in various bars. They drink. I don't. No judgment from me.....with the exception that as the social lubricity of alcohol takes effect, voices get louder, reason becomes comparatively rare, and jokes need to be significantly dumbed down. I find this the wee bit annoying.

8) While in a bar, have you ever paid for your Diet Coke or Ginger Ale ?

- Not once. Not even close.

I know that Kirk is dumbfounded by this revelation.

Now, my spoon is properly heated...so I have something I need to do.

Well, I would go with stunned.

I only had one this weekend. My dad came up and we did a work day on Saturday. Actual physical work takes it out of office veal like me. I was too tired to have beer on Saturday.

I should do more of that.

She's like closing in on 60, isn't she? (Yep, she just turned 55 this past week) and judging by the drug use mentioned in her Wiki article...all in all, not bad---considering.

Yup. Getting older happens. Drugs and plastic surgery probably didn't help.
